UW and Parking

What is it with UW and parking these days? It seems like any chance they get to tow people or find a way to harass people over parking, they'll take it.

A Pokes fan from Cheyenne said he’s livid about his vehicle being towed when he came to Laramie on Sept. 7 to attend the football team’s first home game.

“The University of Wyoming belongs to the people of Wyoming: you’re pushing us away,” Stan Kepley said to the Laramie City Council Tuesday. “Shame on you.”

Kepley said he parked his vehicle on 22nd Street between Willett Drive and Armory Road, and walked from there to War Memorial Stadium for the game.

It's posted pretty clear that if you park in a tow away zone you will be towed. I don't have too much sympathy for someone who blatantly breaks a rule and suffers the consequence.

if anything, they need some signs in the bathrooms that the urinal troughs have a three person limit.

Yeah. That seems like it would be a no brainer that you are not allowed to park in that area. I don't have any sympathy.

And it isn't like this is a "new" deal - those areas have been no parking on game days for YEARS. Hilarious that the Laramie paper picked it up as a hot story for page 1. What a worthless rag. They may as well just shut it down, since they moved everything to Cheyenne (WTE) anyway.

There is a very simple solution to this. If you don't break the law, you won't be punished. Very straightforward. I've NEVER been towed on game days BECAUSE I CAN READ. People that bitch about this kind of thing just make themselves look dumb.

Actually, a good number of vehicles were towed, making it a story.

I'll tell you why...

It was the "well, he parked there, we should too, they won't tow as all" scenario.

Whoops!

I understand that he shouldn't park in a tow zone, but parking at the University is a HUGE problem. Has been since I came on campus as a freshman. And I'm sure before that.

Parking for classes, is insanely hard and frustrating.
Parking for games, well I haven't had to deal with that in a while, as I walk or ride my bike to the football games.

I agree on the one hand beaver but there is great transit for parking in Laramie during school days. I just finished being in Laramie go 5 years and you shouldn't even have to drive to campus. Game day parking is a bitch though and it would be nice to have more shuttles around campus on game day.

I typically ride my bike or if the weather isn't permitting I have PokedBeaver gimme a ride to class.

I agree - can't read - should get a ticket. Towed seems a bit tough. Frankly, they should stripe the gutter yellow on all of 22nd street and just make it no parking all the time.

Parking is terrible on gamedays. Its terrible on non-gamedays. I don't think UW wants to fix it because they make too much revenue off of citations.
