HALF MOON BAY, Calif. -- Mountain West Conference commissioner Craig Thompson says he was told Monday by Utah's athletic director that the university had not been contacted by the Pac-10.

Thompson was attending a meeting of conference commissioners in northern California on Tuesday. Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott was not in attendance.

I don't think Utah has anything serious out on the table. The BSU invitational news talk of a
'unanimous' vote by the presidents of the MWC schools. I think Utah would have abstained from the vote if they knew they wouldn't be here for the long term. Just my $0.02

Good point, but I think it's more of a "chances of getting an invite vs wanting to get an invite" . IMO, they would sell their own mother and be gone in a heartbeat if they could get an invite. The Univ. of Colo. was quoted in the Denver Post saying they would block any non-aq school from the Rocky Mtn. region from going to the Pac 10/11, but they don't have a vote for at least a year so maybe the Pac tries to get them in before that. I'm tired of all the conference shuffling by the money grubbing greedy bastards. I won't stick my head in the sand, but my attitude now is let the people running the conference figure it out.

I can't blame them for wanting more money but switching conferences to get it seems more like an NFL move than a college football move and dirty's the whole thing up in my opinion. I don't watch the NFL because of the greed and arrogance. I think I need a special license to watch the superbowl on my TV.

At any rate I hope things calm down, we are less than 90 days away from kickoff.

I can see Utah sticking around even with an invite. They have a pretty good think going in the MWC and especially now that we have BSU and should become a BCS conference pretty soon. That would mean more money as well. Just throwing things out.

If Utah for some reason decided to stick around (not gonna happen if they get invited), it won't be because of the "new money."

AQ status is a big myth when it comes to money. Assuming the MWC qualifies, that will mean an extra 18 Million for the conference (the full pay out from a BCS bowl). Assuming either Utah stays or goes that is around 1.8-2 million per team. Thats it. Sure 2 million is nice, but it hardly makes up the revenue gap between the haves and have nots.

The real money is in TV dollars and that is where the MWC is still far behind the rest. Assuming Utah did leave to the PAC and they sign a new TV deal, which is expected to pay teams upwards of 15 million a year, that means if Utah moves to the PAC, they will make more TV money than the rest of the MWC combined! The current MWC TV payout per team is around 1.2 million. Hopefully with the addition of Boise we can up that a little bit, but its still far behind when AQ teams are making something like 15x that.

I thin that if San Diego State is such a sleeping giant like everyone says they are, if the MWC loses a program it should be them. It would make more since for the PAC-10. Besides if they want tv revenue, San Diego is far better than SLC. Maybe with more money SDSU would actually become good.

Friday is when it'll be official.
