I am just shocked...read this political garbage bullshit:

“I met with them for a few hours, I would say, during those two days," Burman said on Wednesday. "And they met with multiple staff members and multiple constituents across campus and in the community. But as far as how it went, I think it went very smooth."

"I haven’t seen the final report at this point, but my gut feeling is it will be a very favorable report. I feel very confident in how we operate. Obviously, we want to be more successful competitively, but I would be surprised if the report found anything negative in how we operate our programs."

"It doesn’t mean we have to implement all their recommendations, or any of their recommendations, but I’m sure there’s going to be some really good thoughts and ideas," Burman said. "Most of them we have thought about in the past. Most of them will probably involve some price tag, and that’s going to be the challenge."

Does anyone else think that Tyrone Willingham may not be the best source as to a successful football program? He seems to be a coach that had everything in his favor but produced marginal, at best, football teams.

They aren't critiquing the coaches specifically, they are looking at programs and how they are run, supported, funded, structured, etc. I doubt Tyrone is going to tell DC that he calls Read Option to much, he may however find some redundancies in recruiting structure or possible untapped financial resources.

One thing that I do like about having Tyrone on this is that he's been at 3 different large, BCS schools and at Notre Dame where you can get pretty much anything you want, so he has seen things that we haven't even thought of. While he may not be the most successful coach, he's worked with enough elite administrations (ND & Stanford) that he can recognize something that needs correcting when he sees it.

At best, he's looking at things through his Brown & Gold "Hope I Keep My Job" glasses, but it sounds a bit to me like whistling past the cemetery...

I've seen these sorts of audits when I've worked for larger companies over the years. Usually, they are brought on by quite a few complaints about services, products, etc.

What will happen is anyones guess. Here's mine.

1.) To some extent, this is a CYA thing for the higher ups in the University. If there is any ill-dealings going on, conflicts of interests, anything like that, this should help expose those.

2.) When someone has said "I need XYZ to get this job done", and their job ends up not getting done properly, there is now paperwork from a certified outside consultant that says "Yeah, he really does need XYZ to get his job done, otherwise you will continue seeing this."

3.) They will probably ding some of the mid-level management for some ticky tack things - just enough to make everyone uncomfortable.

I wonder if the white flag Burman waves is homemade or he bought it at K-Mart.

If I read correctly that they brought guys in for two days, then this is what is called "seagull consulting" in the industry. i.e. you fly in, drop a bunch of cr@p, and fly out.

I've done a couple of these in my time. They usually generate a couple of helpful suggestions, and then just repeat the rest of what everyone in the organization has been saying. The only other purpose they serve is to identify opportunities for future consulting work.

So, smokescreen.

Seagulls, pigeons- there's a few different interchangeable terms for these guys. It also gives cover to upper management to delve deeper and hold their subordinates to a higher level of accountability. It's usually just the beginning of a process.

So..
According to the AD, the unspoken message is that the UW president just wasted this money on an audit...he should have just taken Toms word, and the audit will find:

we are who we are
everyone should be happy with it
because this is as good as it gets
unless we give him some more money

Seriously.....
Sternberg, get someone in here with a vision for excellence and a passion for continual improvement :tickedoff:

So after looking deeper into who CSA is what they have done for college sports I at least get the idea that he is going the right direction. What those coaches have done since taking over the programs they took over.

Football Coaches Placed by CSA

University of Akron – Head Football Coach, Terry Bowden | Record 3–17
Boston College – Head Football Coach, Steve Addazio | Record 3-4
University of Colorado – Head Football Coach, John Embree ’10; Mike McIntyre ’12
Kent State University – Head Football Coach, Paul Haynes | Record 2–6
University of Nevada, Reno – Head Football Coach, Brian Polian | Record 3–4
University of New Mexico – Head Football Coach, Bob Davie | Record 6–14
University of Richmond – Head Football Coach, Danny Rocco | Record 10–8
Yale University – Head Football Coach, Tony Reno | Record 2–8

Lot of descent names lot of Christensen mediocre results, It's not fair to judge them all by what they picked up some won't develop the team for 3-4 years CDC has had 5.

Basketball Coaches Placed by CSA

Kansas State University – Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Bruce Weber
Longwood University – Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Jayson Gee
University of New Mexico – Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Craig Neal
Northern Illinois University – Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Mark Montgomery
University of Oklahoma – Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Lon Kruger
Old Dominion University – Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Jeff Jones
University of Tennessee, Chattanooga – Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Will Wade
University of Tennessee, Chattanooga – Head Women’s Basketball Coach, Jim Foster
Winthrop University – Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Pat Kelsey

This IMO is the highlight and the most important part about what CSA does and they do a good job with it.

Athletic Administrators Placed by CSA

Bowling Green State University – Director of Athletics, Chris Kingston
University of California, Berkeley – Chief Operating Officer – Athletics, Solly Fulp
Clemson University – Director of Athletics, Dan Radakovich
Clemson University – Director of IPTAY, Davis Babb
Cleveland State University – Director of Athletics, John Parry
Florida State University – Director of Athletics, Stan Wilcox
Kent State University – Director of Athletics, Joel Nielsen
University of Maryland, Baltimore County – Director of Athletics, Tim Hall
Miami University (Ohio) – Director of Athletics, David Sayler
University of Nevada – Director of Athletics, Doug Knuth
University of Richmond – Director of Athletics, Keith Gill
University of South Dakota – Director of Athletics, David Sayler
University of Tennessee, Chattanooga – Director of Athletics, David Blackburn
Western Carolina University – Director of Athletics, Randy Eaton
University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee – Director of Athletics, Andy Geiger

There are a lot of names that have really turned some of those schools around. It's good to see they evaluate not just on the field and coaches but the athletic directors as well.

Todd Turner, Founder & President of CSA

Career Snapshot

Over thirty years experience as an Athletic Administrator
Athletic Director in 4 of the original 6 BCS Conferences
Primary author of NCAA Academic Reform – Chair of NCAA Working Group that developed the Academic Progress Rate used today by colleges and Universities
Knight Commission – advisory board on NCAA Governance
Author of D1A Athletic Directors’ Association – Code of Ethics and Statement of Core Values

This is a step in the right direction for the UW I don't recall there ever being an outside group evaluating the performance of the athletics director and departments. It's too early to really debate much about it but things like this do get me excited that there could be a future that isn't accepted mediocrity.

I do believe regardless what Tom Burman says this is going well over his head, The ultimate goal if the president really wants to improve athletics the current Directors and Coaches will have no real saying is what is or is not implemented. The old saying goes everything starts at the top and shit rolls down hill, I hope it's finally going to start rolling.

On top of that something I would like to point out, The sign date was 9/7/2013 what that tells me that our new President was already hot on the trail of improving the athletics long before the football season started and he is just now bringing this more public as an eye opener for everyone involved.

It's like one of those I've been watching you and this could be your two week notice. I think the fact it was made public after 2 weeks of horrific football is a big tell tell that he has a lot of information already.

If it was signed on the seventh of Sept. Why is ringolsby in a huff about him springing this group on the AD and coaches?

Because they didn't know anything about CSA until they had to meet with them. Wouldn't that piss you off a bit if suddenly someone you know nothing about is questioning you about everything? My guess would be that they we're already doing background work the entire time.

Certain key comments in the article lead me to believe that if we beat Texas State & CSU we never would have seen this released to the news paper.

“I was hoping we’d be at a different place at this point in the season," Sternberg said. "We’re not, and so it makes sense to get some advice about what we can do to optimize our resources.”

Sternberg said he likely wouldn't have sought outside help if the football team had showed more improvement up to this point.

“If we had a totally winning season, maybe I would have thought, ‘Well, perhaps this isn’t necessary,’" Sternberg said. "Things aren’t going terribly; they’re also not going optimally. I think everyone knows that.

That alone tells me that if we we're undefeated right now we would not be reading this.

He could be blowing smoke up everyones ass but I don't think so, I think he is actually going to make changes.

I'd be more pissed that I suck at my job, than worrying about the president springing an efficiency expert on me. Pretty clear from this season that something needs to change, whether its more funding, better coordinators or a new staff. Burman pretending everything is roses is just delusional

Since most of you already know my name (due to the weird censorship thing in a previous NCAA football game), I got my message back from Sternberg.

Dear Chase,

I realize we are not where we want to be in some of our men's athletics. That is why we have hired a consultant. We will get there. I am taking it very seriously and so is Tom Burman. We will not be satisfied with so-so seasons. Thanks for writing. Best, Bob

I'm almost wondering if this consultant won't be assisting Christensen in locating new defensive staff. He's proven he can compile some good offensive assistants, it seems to make sense that maybe he's tossed in the towel and asked for help.
