UNR beat writer picks Pokes 2nd in MW

For the love of God.....CSU received FOUR 1st-place votes? Unfreakingbelieveable.....

I hate when media members make picks just to be the contrarian.

And nobody will fall harder on his face this fall than Derek Carr. He wasn't even that good last year. People are getting overly excited about these Freshman QBs from last season....the Sophomore slump will be in full effect this fall.

They must have been drinking way too much whiskey when they voted.

I believe that is first team all MW players and not votes based on order of finish since it is one beat writer :twocents: even if that is the case CSewe has 3 so a dunno

As of now, the MWC appears to have three tiers of teams:

Alphabetical Order Within Tier
[1] Boise State
[2] Fresno State, Hawai'i, Nevada, Wyoming
[3] Air Force, Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State, UNLV

However, based on specific game analysis, a Tier 2 team could defeat BSU and a Tier 3 team could defeat a Tier 2 team, but I seriously doubt that a Tier 3 team could defeat BSU.

When you look at those groups, you could also argue there is no second tier. Lots of teams still have some proving to do when it comes to annual consistency. Outside of Nevada (sort of), none of those teams wins consistently. I think this year we will begin to see if a second tier truly forms or not. Create this topic last fall, and you would have put AFA in the 2nd tier and Wyoming in the 4th. Yet now they've almost flipped spaces? Like I said, there is no 2nd tier but a 3rd tier filled with teams needing to establish consistency. This topic would be better judged this December.

I would only have 3 tiers if there wasn't so many ?'s with AFA and SDSU and have them in the second tier but I agree with most what your are saying

Yeah, I hear ya, but AFA/SDSU have just as many questions as UW, FSU, UNR, etc. Like I said, lots of teams with something to prove. Nevada has consistently won 7+ games a year for years now. The other contenders for that 2nd tier can't say that.

This season, the MWC will be exciting to watch because there are many uncertainties, especially among new coaches and inexperienced defenses. Also, although many of the offenses in the MWC have many returning players, many of those offenses are learning a new offensive scheme under a new OC/HC.

This season, there will be at least one surprise team.
