UNLV Game Saturday

We looked awful in all aspects. Should have been win, all things considered. But when you shoot <20% from 3, and jack it up 21 times (going 4 for 21 - with one of those that went in being with 3 seconds left), good things don't happen. That 3 of 9 from the charity stripe is an embarrassment as well. We should have gotten the 10 year old's from the Elks contest to shoot our free-throws. No rhythm, no passion. Very strange for a Wicks team to look that flat and uninspired.

This team has been super inconsistent all season long.

It really all boils down to how well they shoot the three ball. When they are making the three at a 40% or higher rate, they are competitive. When they aren't, they have no chance of winning the game. We have zero ability to score down low in the post and almost zero ability to score off the dribble. That leaves us taking a lot of jump shots. If they don't fall, we are in major trouble.

We badly need a post who can be a threat with their back to the basket and a player or two who can get to the rim off the dribble and finish.

Went to the game on Saturday and saw much of what I saw in the Utah State game. Poor shooting and no rhythm on offense. Defensive effort was lacking (this was the first game I saw that). Kind of felt like the team was playing out the string. No emotion and very flat. They missed most of the few free throws they got (3 of 9). Halftime entertainment was 10x better than the game. I don’t think I will be going to any more games this year.

The shooting was bad and the defense was terrible. At some point, bad offense leads to bad defense. It's pretty hard to bust your tail over and over when nothing positive happens on the offensive end of the floor. The strategy to shorten the game by running the shot clock down is a good one. The problem is getting a decent shot off in time, which is hit and miss. We are very close to being the worst team in the league. So I would never say any game should be a win. Maybe we beat Air Force and SJS at home, but there is little chance in any of the other games.

It's amazing to me that this team seems to play better on the road. The team I saw in San Diego actually looked competitive. This one, not so much.
