University Of Wyoming Plans to Move Campus To Casper by 2020

We might as well move to Denver... WHO CARES if we're located in Colorado!

Yup. The University of Wyoming in Colorado

LOL!!!

I like hypotheticals...

The truth, too far north and we are FCS, too far west and we are another Mormon school, to far east and we're really disappear under the shadow of Nebraska and to far south and we are in Colorado.
We are right where we need to be. But we could sure use the city of Laramie to upgrade. Bring in more business. More jobs, more Population, and a little bigger airport.

Let's not screw around with Casper, just to see if we can get 600 more people to a game.

Let's move our stadium to Tampa.

Good airport. Great recruiting.

The University of Wyoming at Florida... I like it!

Maybe San Diego. Then we can really rival those tecs.

... The possibilities are endless!!!

... The possibilities are endless!!!

I blame Burman -- of course! -- for thinking small.

Why do we even need a stadium?

We could fly around the country, playing at stadiums we rent. Seattle, Los Angeles, Kansas City, New Orleans, Atlanta, Miami, New York, Philadelphia...etc.

We could be "Cowboys: Riders in the Sky."

We'd be huuuuuuuuuuuge!

That's still too small

... I've got it!!!

We could be WORLD WIDE!!!!
Asia, Europe, United Kingdom, Australia, South America, Africa! Think of the money! The recruiting trails! We could rent out soccer stadiums.

Wyoming Universe...ity! We bring Wyoming to you!

The headline to this thread is obviously fiction - however - as I made my way to Laramie earlier this evening from Sheridan and passed through Casper I started to think about something.

We all mention from time to time the remoteness of Laramie, how it is difficult to get to either by car or by plane - and when inclement weather hits it makes heading to a game extremely difficult if you're not in the immediate vicinity of the Laramie area.

Takes me just about 2 hours to get to Casper from Sheridan, and I thought to myself - - if the University was situated in Casper, what would that mean to in regard to a host of things, among them, attendance at football & basketball games?

Is there any way to hypothetically quantify this impossible scenario?

What would it mean to the University's coffers if the campus and the stadium/arena was located in what is a much more accessible and possibly convenient setting? Would it mean an uptick in attendance to the tune of maybe 5K more for football games on average, or another 2500 per game for Pokes basketball?

It's hardly a doable scenario of course, and I'm not even suggesting such an outlandish maneuver...but it did get me to thinking about this for a while as I made my way down to wonderful Laramie earlier this evening for tomorrow's game.

If there was no University Of Wyoming until right now, I have to believe that the central headquarters would not be Laramie - but probably Casper.

Thoughts?
I think you and SDFan should get together and go bowling.

Casper's got less population within two hours of it than Laramie.

Really, one of the best things that could happen to the University is to have Laramie grow considerably. They need to get into the top 2/3 rankings in the state - eg 50-60k range.

Once it reaches that size (without students included) - it can start to sustain itself by not being so remote - but not being huge either.
Yes. The state really needs to help Laramie grow

There are houses and apartment buildings going up almost constantly it seems, so Laramie is growing. By how much and what demographic those people make up though, I'm not sure (like retirees, students, people moving here for work, etc). For example, just a few years ago, there was nothing by wal-mart and Bone and Joint. Now there is a growing neighborhood in the area (also where the new high school is being built).

You have been in Laramie (I'm assuming) for a while? During your time how much growth in terms of population have you seen? I've met some nice people here over the years who tell me that on balance, the Laramie of today isn't too much different from the Laramie when Jim Brandenburg was coaching the Pokes. True?
Dino, Laramie is growing and expanding, but family sizes are considerably smaller than 20-30 years ago. SO the population is not that much larger

Excuse me if I'm being completely ignorant, not being from Wyoming....

How is travel along I-25 (and I-80) during inclement weather? Would a (hypothetical) move to Cheyenne be more beneficial? It keeps you in the Front Range area (which soccerhead15 mentioned), but gets you in a larger population area. You are also closer to Denver (and the airport), which would help in recruiting. It shouldn't affect travelers from Casper, as it looks like I-25 to Cheyenne takes about the same amount of time as WY-487/US-287 to Laramie.
It varies, in all honesty. Sometimes it'll be fine, other times it'll be closed off due to weather.

And while Cheyenne is larger, it also acts as a sort of filter, in that it filters out a lot of the shit from Colorado (a Laramie saying, for those of you who grew up here).

Also, Laramie has a regional airport that is actually affiliated with UW and has direct flights to DIA.

Laramie needs places for regular working class dudes to work. If Albany county had sweetwater county resources with the university, it would be perfect. Alas, they don't. They better build some sort of tech sector etc. did magpul go to Laramie or Cheyenne?

Terrible idea. If was going to move, Cheyenne would make far more sense. With the two major highway networks intersecting, travel to and from would be easier and would allow easier recruitng

I know I'm going to get flamed for saying this. If it were up to me I'd put the University of Wyoming in Jackson, the stadium would be right next to the Tetons. It would be the most beautiful backdrop of any college football stadium in the nation. Built with a "log" style look on the stadium to give it a Wyoming look. Make it Jackson fancy!

Perhaps I'm a little biased because I live close to the Tetons. Be much easier to get to the games :D

Also fucking expensive too.

So, you're telling me that suggesting a move to FBS is "beyond ludicrous" but moving the entire goddamn campus - that you just spent god knows how many million dollars renovating over the last 15 years - makes sense???????????????????????!?!?!@?!@?!@?

Hey! Hey!

I know tensions are high...

I got it. We will play on the Moon! It will help with our plans of inner galactic domination...

Do you know the meanings of the words "fiction" "hypothetically" and "impossible scenario".

The difference between this and your suggestion is that he knows it's a hypothetical.
