There have been plenty of other instances with players on this team when their eligibility was not eaten up. He is still considered a student athlete. The athletic department and coach Shyatt have every right to discipline a student athlete while they are on scholarship, regardless of eligibility. Derek is still on scholarship, still a student athlete, and still a face of the University that should be held to a high standard.

The coaching staff needs to practice what they preach. Shyatt has stated how proud he is of his players for their off court behavior numerous times in his interviews. It would be nice if there was some truth to their great behavior. This truly frustrates me that behavior like this is allowed, especially in a climate like Wyoming's. These players are looked up to as heroes by most kids in this state, even though some are not the great role models that they are marketed to be. Just to be clear, these behavior issues do not pertain to all of the team, just a select few.

So Shyatt is supposed to discipline someone who's already used up his eligibility? How do you propose he does this?

His eligibility wasn't up when he knocked a dude unconscious in a bar. On a week night. In the middle of the season.
