That lose really hurt. I was in a bad mood all weekend and could bring myself to visit the site until today. But I have to get some thoughts on the game and the team out if for nothing else my peace of mind.
1. Brett has got to be smarter when it comes to these type of things but it is hard for me to blame a kid when he gets penelized for something that it appears would be allowed 4 out of 5 times it happens. I am not sure exactly what happened but from the looks and quotes about it it seems to be something that happens in almost every football game. I am sure Brett has learned his lesson though and will be better for it. Love Brett Smith.
2.Our run D stepped up their game big time. It appears they focused on the run which allowed them to hit some passes on us but still good to see some improvements in the run D. I think our defense will continue to get better. We are in a new system and every week become more and more comfortable with it. When they get comfortable they can react instead of thinking about what to do.
3. Im not ready to give up on this team yet. We have been in every game this year with the exception of texas and even then we had a chance to make it interesting. The rest of the games came down to one or two plays as the difference. I don't see anyone else on or schedule that is any better than Nevada(maybe boise but not by much and we are at home). So we should also be in the rest of the games right up to the end. If Brett stays healthy and in the game I think we win any close one at the end. He just has the it factor to win at the end. So right now I am predicting we finish 8-4. If we lose another game then I will change my prediction to 7-5 and so on.
4. I don't think I agree with the call at the end of regulation to take the knee but I can see the coaches logic in it. we took a shot down the feild and the pass was off. For the game Thompson looked terrible passing so the chances of giving them the ball back with a much more effective passer was high. Go to overtime and we can run or pass on offense. Again not sure i agree but i understand I don't think it was as terrible as some on here.
