Taking off our Brown and Gold goggles for a second, who would you rather have at RB on your all star MWC team, Brian Hill? Or Donnel Pumphrey?

Man, this question is so difficult to answer without considering how much I love Brian Hill. I put my hand on my heart like I was pledging allegiance to Brian Hill when he came out for warm ups before the game on Saturday.

BRIAN HILL.

Pumphrey is good, there is no doubt. Hill, to me, is on a whole different level. Had Hill faced the same defenses to this point that SDSU has, he would have the same, if not better numbers. Brian Hill is a beast. He isnt the same kind of runner, he has the ability to run around you and to run through you. I don't think Pumphrey has the same abilities. He will certainly run around or past you, but I don't think he can run through or drag linebackers and safeties like Hill does.

Thats my $0.02

Pumphery, while shifty, fast, and great vision, has size issues. And not sure how he is in pass blocking.

Hill, while not a speedster, isn't slow, but has shown to be a pretty good pass AND run blocker, has great vision, and plows through defenders.

I'll take Hill, though I wouldn't say "no" to having Pumphery.

I agree with your thought process. I think that they both have certain very unique traits about them that make them as great as they are. I do think that Brian Hill's skillset will transfer much easier to the NFL than Pumphrey's.

I'll be completely honest, I haven't seen Donnel Pumphrey play. I missed last year's game (don't remember why) and don't watch many other MW games.

However, he hasn't exactly played a gauntlet of opponents
California - 128 of 128
N. Illinois - 103 of 128
S. Alabama - 97 of 128
UN-Las Vegas - 66 of 128
Fresno State - 126 of 128
San Jose State - 116 of 128
Utah State - 80 of 128

Compare that to...
N. Illinois - 103 of 128
Nebraska - 38 of 128
E. Michigan - 52 of 128
Colorado St. - 85 of 128
Air Force - 14 of 128
Nevada - 124 of 128
Boise State - 49 of 128

That's not only Pumphrey that's skewing those numbers....he hasn't played as good of rush defenses. The 19th will be a great test. SDSU has the No. 2 rush defense right now. Wyoming has No. 40 rush defense, which will be by far the biggest test Pumphrey has faced this year.

That's very telling. Nice work.

I think Pumphrey is the next Darren Sproles, used mostly in special situations, and possibly for returning punts and kick offs. Hill is more of a prototypical NFL back and if I have to pick one, I pick Hill any day. He's got the body to take the day to day pounding in the NFL where I'm not sure Pumphrey could take the continual punishment. Just my two cents.

Nobody has mentioned yet the block Hill through on the first offensive play. I encourage you all to go watch his lead block for Austin Conway...

There was a post not lying about Hills NFL possibility and lots of people talking about how he can't block I hope all those people watched our last few games he can definitely block

We're seeing more blocking from him this season, but I'm not sure if it's progress of ability or the play-calling (or both). He still lacks the stop-switch-and-supersonic ability more prototypical of modern NFL backs. His size and strength are there for a team looking for a power back, but I don't see him standing out as much in this season's draft as he would following a possible Heisman run next season.

Speaking of Austin Conway, I can see him in the next couple of years becoming a player comparable to Warrick Dunn of SDSU and Tampa Bay Buccaneers fame.

I really think Hill has a true NFL body, Pomphrey will be good but I forsee him being converted to DB or Safety, just my take, Hill is a beast as we all know

I honestly wonder if the coaches won't just convert him to full time running back, since that's about all he does.

Conway really is about the same size as Pumphrey. It could happen, he has such great hands that they must be afraid he wouldn't cath the ball enough at running back alone. (Like hill doesn't see many receptions). It appears that the consensus is that Brian Hill is the clear choice. Not a surprise. I agree, Brian has the size, speed, power, will, and as was pointed out, this season has faces much better run defenses than Pumphrey. I am pumped to see them on the same field!

Not a chance. This isn't something new for Bohl and Vigen. That's a play they ran at their last stop too.

But they haven't even really thrown the ball to Conway. The only times he's out on the field, is to run the ball.

Conway never played wide receiver. He was a quarterback before. He just needs to learn to run routes and he'll be one of the best receivers in the MWC.

It didn't help that he got a late start after transferring over from the basketball team.

I like Conway as a wide receiver. He just needs time to learn the position.

Exactly. He's been with the team for 7 months and 1 day. Keep him at one position, give him the full offseason weight training program and spring ball, and I think he'll look even better next year.
