Jesus...are these 2 for real? They are missing the point...COMPLETELY. I am embarrassed for my state, my university, and my football and basketball teams, that we have such backward thinking individuals in such crucial positions at UW. That, and I guess they don't know that UW has "sold alcohol" on campus - in the union beer gardens - for more than 50 years. What an embarrassment!!!
Despite some of the revenue potential and support from city and university law enforcement, UW Board of Trustee Member Mike Massie said he had concerns about what kind of message selling alcohol at athletic events would send to underage students. Massie said he was concerned the university’s efforts to curb underage drinking and alcohol abuse could conflict with the introduction of alcohol at UW athletic events.
“There’s a longstanding cultural issue of alcohol abuse in Wyoming and how these students bring that tradition down here to campus,” Massie said. “It’s been demonstrated in so many ways on campus over the years, not to mention the eight cross country runners who were killed.”
Trustee Michelle Sullivan also voiced concern about the appearances of alcohol sales, asking, “What kind of conversation happens with plans like this with larger student campus on life in terms of how we’re modeling responsible alcohol or no alcohol use over the course of student life?”
