Color me disappointed that the coverage from what I was able to read in Sunday's editions did not have coverage that included the Kind of pointed and specific criticism that was certainly more than justified.

I have no problems with game stories - however - there HAS to be the kind of legitimate criticism one would find in just about any newspaper in America covering a Division 1 college football team with the kind of expectations this team had going into the 2012 season.

Or is real criticism in Wyoming papers covering the Pokes just not the way things are done around these parts?

If that's the case, why should I ever buy a paper again?

I apparently can glean more insight in terms of justifiable and arguable negative points about the team, the coach, the program overall...you mean I can get that right here on WYONATION.COM more than I can get it anywhere else?

I'm all for WYO all the time, but there does come a point where the pom-poms have to be put away and the daggers need to come out...because its good for the fans, the newspapers, and yes, the WYO football program as well.

Get it together WTE & CST.

If you go against the team's idea of how the media is allowed to cover the team, you get banned from covering them (ie-Eric Schmoldt'ACS).

Gagliardi typically does a blog post on his thoughts on the game.. pretty mild in tone, but definitely puts his thoughts out there.

Like cowboyz said above, it'd probably be very easy to get restricted in your coverage of the team if you slip up and start writing about things that the coaching staff feels you shouldn't write about.

i find our reporters very objective, i know they have a job to do but they also have to have an opinion and not worry about who's toes you step on, this program isn't any better than years past, in my opinion

Wait a minute!

Please don't tell me that UW banned a reporter for previous coverage...that did NOT happen.

Did it?

yes our last reporter at Casper Star was very biased towards when ACS left and he was reprimanded big time

I have been critical of Gags in past, but I think that his comments about the game showed more nuts than he usually does. Good for him. I'm beginning to like the guy and appreciate his work.

On another note...how does the University pay a coach over a millon $ a year and he has a record less than .500? Bad investment. Time to cut our loses now. Maybe our new UW Pres will see the light and clean house. DII here we come as the rest of the MWC will pass us by in both FB and BB bigtime in the next few years on a consistent basis, just as Utah, BYU, TCU, SDSU and BSU have.

I thought you'd been following Cowboy football for awhile?

ACS is Austyn Carta-Samuels, Brett Smith's predecessor here at QB for 2 years. Left after his Sophomore season (went 3-9), and ended up at Vanderbilt.

yup...so far the only real difference between the 2 is that austyn won the NM bowl

I disagree completely. ACS was a diva and a locker room cancer. He also couldn't throw the ball to save his life. Brett is 10x the QB that ACS ever was.

Easy amigo, yes I've been a fan for a while, yes I know who Austyn Carta-Samuels is/was, I just did not get the acronym at the time -- my apologies, and thanks for the clarification.

That's disappointing big time, I love the WYO athletic department and media relations staff -- however -- to not allow a reporter to opine whatever the hell they want to in a newspaper without having to worry about negative repercussion from the University smacks of paranoia/immaturity as well as an extreme example of an institution enforcing selective censorship.

I like to think The University Of Wyoming is better than that.

ACS is what they called him on the mtn

Then again, speaking of acronym's, I'm positive that I'm the only one in America who refuses to call Robert Griffin by any other name than the one that is on his birth certificate.

The nickname Griffin's teammates have given him cracks me up: Bobby three sticks.

The WTE and the Trib as long as I can remember have had a problem being critical of Wyoming athletics. The same goes for the few Wyoming based sports talk shows out there. The media and the University have a good relationship and the "reporters" are afraid to be critical I think because they do not want to lose access to the program which is kind of funny considering DC has put up an iron curtain on most things.

The relationship can still be good and one of mutual benefit so long as personal cheap shots are not taken...otherwise I fail to see why WYO would expect ANY member of the media to do nothing more than serve as a mouthpiece for the institution as well as a lackey...a lack of appreciation for critical thinking ultimately creates a culture of paranoia and this results in the culmination of a public that receives a generic and watered down press that is beholden to the school, held hostage in effect, and a press that ultimately loses every shred of credibility it may have thought it possessed in the first place.

How sad...how could you look in the mirror at yourself?
