I agree with StickNnod, outside of Wisconsin the Big Ten looks pretty average. Ohio State had a nice win against CU today, but I don't think it made anyone forget that they stunk it up against Toledo and Miami. They should get better when they get the rest of their starters back, but even then they're probably not going to be a great team this year.
So anyway, there's every reason to think that boring old toss sweeps could help land us in the title game. With that said, I wasn't real impressed with Martinez either. The announcers said he looked 'in command'...I'd hate to see what not 'in command' would look like. When running the option play, I always worry that Martinez will leave his RB in the dust and have no one to pitch to. And as a passer there aren't many QBs that can get away with throwing behind the receiver on almost every pass. I can't help but wonder how good the backup (Brion Carnes) will be when he has a bit more experience. He didn't get to do much today, but I think back to that option play where he did a nice job of forcing the defender to commit to him and then made a nice pitch to the RB for a big game. Only one play, but he really seemed to get the whole point of the play (follow the blockers, made the defender decide who he is going to cover and either run it or pitch it for a gain).
I really like what I saw out of Wyoming. I think we can safely put last year's nightmare behind and look forward to a fun season (I live in Cheyenne, and follow UW as well). There's enough potential there to think about a 7-8 win season...maybe 9, though with a Freshman QB you pretty much have to think he's going to give away one game that the team should probably win and I'm not real hopeful about the Boise St and TCU games no matter how he plays.
