Top 5 teams in the conference get byes.
If we lose just one more game, the worst we could is 6th.
If our 1 loss is to someone NOT named Boise State then we get 5th AT WORST.

We play @ SJSU, home vs Fresno, @CSU, home vs. AFA, home vs. Boise, @USU, home vs CSU

Wyo SHOULD beat SJSU, Fresno, CSU (2x), and AFA.
Boise and USU are the two hardest games left.
At worst the Pokes should go 5-2.
Yes, they should sweep CSU. CSU is falling hard lately.
Wyo should beat SJSU who is WINLESS in MWC play.
Wyo should beat Fresno in a revenge game at home.
AFA at home, won't be easy, but the record should be good enough to get plenty of fans here making it a W.

If Wyo can hold home court, then that is a W against Boise.

I really think the Pokes go 6-1. Good chance of 7-0, with 5-2 being realistic as well.

Pokes can make the Top 5 pretty easily, it's our spot to lose.
Boise would have to win out to stop us from doing it.

There is room for Nevada to fall completely as well......lots of potential losses. Pokes could finish as high as 3rd....In fact, I think the standings close at 1. SDSU 2. UNM 3. WYO 4. UNLV 5. BSU.

Anyone have a link to how the MWC Tournament format is this spring?

If Wyo would have beaten UNLV, I would feel A LOT more confident about us finishing ahead of UNLV in the standings.

I don't want to be a 4/5 because I do not want to play SDSU in the semi's.

But, the MWC is crazy and anything could happen. Hell, NM is only a HALF game back from SDSU now, and still play them twice.

I want NM before SDSU again.
I don't think we lose to them a 3rd time.
We took them to OT in Laramie and ABQ.

As for the tourney, I know that the 6/11 play, the 7/10 play, and the 8/9 play in the first round.

What I do NOT know is if the winners of those games have their next opponent already determined, or if the lowest (like an 11 seed) remaining seed plays the 1, the highest remaining (like a 6) plays the 3, and if the middle seed (7 through 10) plays the 2.

That could make all the difference in the world really.
But it wouldn't matter if we are a 4 or 5.
The bracket for us would be the same as other years.

I really hope that we don't draw a potential tourney of UNLV, SDSU, then NM.

Its pre-determined wit h#1 playing winner of 8-9 and #2 playing winner of 7-10 and #3 playing 6-11. I don't think that is the way it should be. I think htey should reseed after the first roud but oh well not a big deal.

PERFECT!

Now if Boise can beat UNLV on Saturday, we will be in striking position.
Obviously, Boise is right behind us and we want a cushion, but we don't need a cushion if we keep winning.

We will end up in 3rd, I'm callin' it now!

UNLV and Nevada both have some hard games left.

Beav, while I think that it is a possibility for us to finish in 3rd, I will predict that we will get fourth. I see us going 5-2 the rest of the way which will be good enough to finish ahead of Nevada and slightly ahead of Boise if we win that one at home. I don't think that we will catch UNLV since they have the tiebreaker.

Sounds reasonable. Win the home games and the road game at SJSU. 11-7, 20-11. That's solid progress with an opportunity to make noise in the MWCT and then some type of postseason.

My question is who would you rather see in the conference tournament, NEvada with a star senior guard in Burton? Or Boise, a team with tons of offense that underachieved all year?

Its a tough call, I still think Id rather play Burton, something tells me Boise is gonna make noise in the Conf tourney.

Personally, I'd much rather see Nevada. For one, I think we have a better chance of beating them. Secondly, it would likely be one hell of an entertaining game to watch. Both games have been extremely competitive and there is some bad blood between the teams.

Also I just looked at the standings and WOW, this conference is turning into a crapshoot, Fresno is now all of a sudden 5-7 and RED HOT, with Boise squeeking past New Mexico they are now 6-6. Utah State is hot as well. ITs crazy, the cowboys can still finish anywhere from 3rd to 9th!! The conference is DEEP this year, and that road loss to Fresno does not look so bad anymore now! What a finish it will be!

speculation is wonderful ain't it??? lol......just think if we take care of business rather than depending on other teams to lose and drop.....(the loss at Nevada, Fresno and New Mexico loom large), wouldn't it be better for us to play games and build off those games??? i've never been a fan of byes

Nevada. Boise is a much better team IMO. They have underachieved slightly, but they have a ton of weapons and Watkins is a load inside (unlike Nevada's big men who are only a load when they are spouting off to reporters).

Absolutely, I still honestly think we are better than the remaining teams on our schedule, but the only games I view as "automatic" wins are SJSU, AFA, and CSU at home. I think that most people here admit that BSU could be anyone's game, but really I even see the homie vs Fresno the same way, and of course Fort Collins and Logan are always tough places to win at regardless of what those teams do in the reg season.

The Pokes have so much to play for down the stretch. Getting the #3 seed would be huge. That puts both SDSU and UNLV on the other side of the bracket. You know that if those 2 teams played in the semifinals, it would be a bloodbath. And that's after UNLV battles Boise in the first round. I also like our chances against New Mexico. We all know it's tough to beat a team 3 times, not to mention the million in a row they've won against us. We're due against those guys.

I think our road to the championship would be Nevada in the quarterfinals, New Mexico in the semis, and SDSU/UNLV in the finals...and I think that's a very favorable path for Wyoming. I would honestly love another opportunity against UNLV in Vegas.

We should beat every team left on the schedule, but then again, we should have beaten Fresno. I think we're playing our best ball right now, and I like the confidence these guys are playing with. I don't think our margin of error for victory is growing instead of shrinking. Winning out, while difficult, is within reach, and I actually kinda expect it.

Considering we were picked to finish 7th in the pre season polls I'm quite happy where we are and where we could end up.
