Tonight's Game

Stream down for me. Was working then sound kicked in and then shit the bed
I hope you get that figured out. I have had no issues besides the lack of sound to start the game.

Hankerson is stronger than anyone on that Western State team. He knows it and is getting into the paint at will.

Lieberman is a natural point guard. He may be the best ball handler and passer on the team as a freshman.

Got the stream going, Nance gets what he wants with ease.
I am still extremely scared watching him play. I probably will be for all of the OOC schedule.

But man, he just gets what he wants. I wonder what it's going to be like when he really gets motivated to start putting up points. He can easily drop 40 in a game against a lesser OOC opponent.

I hate our offense and I always have. We have guys who can take it to the rack, but aren't allowed to. Kind of frustrating.

I have no doubt WYO will compete with CU but it's hard to see us winning the game with the way our defense is playing right now.

I like our bench a lot this year. Especially when we get Gorski back and Washington if he doesn't red shirt. Best stat tonight was Wyoming made 24 field goals and had 21 assists on those made baskets. I expect to see a lot more focused Wyoming team on Saturday. They should look a lot better. Think they used these first two games as warm ups honestly.

Go Pokes!

So is he bad on offense or defense? I would assume offense.

Hmm... That is the question. Shyatt seems to emphasize defense, so that may be where he is weakest. You don't have to be a scoring machine on offense to be an important contributor, but you do need basketball smarts - know when to pass, screen, move, etc. Let our on-site forum members watch him closely if he gets in and report.

He was EXTREMELY vocal on defense! I was courtside so I heard him getting after other guys and motivating them to get stops. When the ball went up he was knocking his guy all around, they may have only had 1 offensive rebound when he was in if I remember correctly. His body language was totally different on offense though. He looked lost and had a panicked face whenever the ball was in his hands.

I think he'll settle into a solid role player by the time conference play starts.

Agree. It was his first action, and he wasn't timid. Will be a blast watching him develop over the years. Riley sure got put in his place last night (by Shyatt personally) after a couple of mental breakdowns...and never went back in the game. Lieberman is special...same with McManamen.

Side note - WTF does Shyatt see in unlucky number 13?

Went to the game last night, and we started out slow/sluggish, but Western was hitting from the parking lot,and I knew it wouldn't last. Obervations on my behalf:

Grabau---his head was truly thinking about playing CU, and he's in quite the back rim brick slump, but hopefully he'll get it by CU, he wasn't into it at all, mentally...

Adams----signs of his old self but was tenative as well, hopefully he's saving it for CU as well

Hankerson----is a stud and reminds me of the QB of the team, he wants the ball and to be a contributor, he's gonna have a solid year

Cooke---he's improved ever so much, all around, dunks and ft shooting, he'll be a force for us as well

Nance----still the same ol Larry, I was worried about him during Non Conf season and such, I'm NOT anymore, he's spot on and the true leader of the team....He'll be just fine, if not more

Lieberman---breath of fresh air and is quick and good, gonna like what you see there

Sellers----a good relief for Larry and has shown some signs of improvement but he's still Sellers

Herndon-----boy this kid is gonna be awesome, reminds me of a young Larry Nance JR, kid's got game once he truly figures it out

Barnes-----little raw, but a big body we need come conference season, didn't play alot but liked what i saw

Bentz---same ol Jack, dependable

McMannamen-----wow I like what I see here, can shoot the 3 and is a contributor on both sides of the floor, and a Wyo Kid!!!

This team is yet again going to be fun to watch, the new Arena configuration, it is nice but you find yourself scanning the crowd and trying to get that comfortable feeling, it's gonna take some time. With how they have the students I think it's cool come the 2nd half, but the noise seems to not be as loud....maybe it's cuz all the fans are trying to get comfortable in the new AA, but it sure didn't have the feeling of going to a bball game it was more like being in the library. It'll all take time, but come conference season I think we'll be just fine. Gonna be fun watching the newbies grow into their niche on this team....GO POKES

Stymeman, you lost me here. Dependable? 7 minutes, 0-1, 2 loose ball rebounds, 2 turnovers. He looked horrible last night.

guess i meant----he's someone we can insert into the line up and not lose much, Grabau and Jack we're kinda flat and seems like their minds were somewhere else...my problem "still" is the unselfish nature of the team and making the extra passes when they are wide open for an easy shot, but that'll come in time. Grabau needs to play like a senior and leader, hopefully he was just waiting for CU this weekend, I'm glad it's at the AA and not Boulder.

Gotcha...and agree, they both (Grabau & Bentz) played like shit. I don't have the "Fan Confidence" in Bentz like others around me do...or that Shyatt has. But he obviously knows best, and I have the utmost respect for him and his staff.

You are probably spot on with CU waiting in the wings as far as Grabau goes. Bentz was just probably thinking about getting some ass or something.

I am glad I am not the only one who feels this way. I feel like an jerk criticizing the walk-on, but nothing good happens when he is on the floor. Should only play in blow-out situations IMO.

I agree with you. It was his first time in a game and he looked tight (especially on offense). He just needs to settle down a little and let the game come to him - he's going to get better the more PT and the more relaxed he gets. The adrenaline was really running for him last night. Also, the speed of the game at this level is probably a little faster than he has seen - even in practice.
