Toledo, you officially suck

I know, football is a rough game blah blah blah. But Brett Smith is my cousin and one of my dearest friends in the world, and to see him carted off due to a chicken shit hit makes me eager to see a little justice and karma delivered. Pretty hard to not take it personal, just because he's an even better kid than he is a quarterback. Enjoy your horseshit victory Toledo...time to step it up Pokes and play up to your potential!

There was a lot of cheap shots no doubt.....this is unfortunately a very brutal game. I'm not sure the guy intended to hurt Brett like that, but it happened regardless.

We love this game, but there will always be that dark side to it. Can't do anything now but hope that Brett will be okay going forward. As long he isn't in jeopardy of dealing with pounding headaches the rest of his life, I couldn't care less about what else happens.

None of us are happy with what happened to Bret, you can be sure of that. And the refs sure didn't protect the QB (Bret in this case) during the game. There were several times that penalties should have been called, but were ignored.

I obviously hated to see what happened to Brett, on the other hand I saw no malicious intent on the play that caused his injury...

I don't know about malicious intent for it, but the refs did a lousy job protecting him earlier in the game. So, why souldn't the Toledo defense go after him if they got away with it earlier? Because that's what it looked like.

I can tell you that just about every Wyoming fan loves the way Brett Smith plays and handles himself. He truly represents our state well. We are very lucky to have him and hope that he fully recovers.

The proof is in the picture Dino. This was a malicious hit (actually 2 malicious hits). Not only the horse collar tackle, but the second guy coming in hard to the head.

I do think it was dirty, but I don't think it was intent to harm.

Here is a quote from the player that injured Smith. The Toledo paper says tears came to his eyes when the subject was brought up.

"That dude is a great competitor," Robinson said. "In my four years, he's probably the most competitive player I've ever played against."

How can you see anything but malicious intent from Robinson? He'd been throwing cheap shots all day not that you'd know it from the refs. They didn't even flag him on that play, he should have been ejected!

The hit was five feet in front of me. It was malicious. It was not a play on the ball. And the whole time the crowd was booing while brett was motionless, you had gangsta peices of shi egging the crowd on. It was pathetic. Toledo players did cheap shots ALL GAME!!!!!! WHAT GAME WERE YOU WATCHING.

I'm not blaming this loss on this play. Toledo beat us. Fine. But their plays were not on the ball.

In you quest to be a national subjective media hack, you are overcompensating to the point of being irrational.

Ridiculous commentary, I was on the field at the time mere feet from Brett as they were tending to him...the Toledo players were concerned and so was the guy who leveled the hit...this was not malicious with an intent to harm Brett Smith. I was there as they were placing him onto the gurney to take him off the field and not once did I see any Toledo player acting in any shameless fashion...on the contrary some Wyoming fans did cross a line by throwing some things at the Toledo cheer squad and yelling at the Toledo bench with choice words not meant for a PG movie theater crowd.

Wow I like how every body complains and cries about the refs, sure they might be absolutely horrible on how they called the game but guess what, is it is football and good teams adapt on the field on how the game is being called. If they aren't calling holds you need to hold more, borderline hits keep hitting, letting overly aggressively dB's being physical be more physical. Sound like Brett Smith was getting hit late or borderline late hits, well do something about it and nip it in the butt. Where were the OL in this just standing around and being a bitch, stand up for yourself and your QB, this sends a message to the refs that this kind of play will not be tolerated and they end up putting the clamps on it. Whatever happened to Wyoming tough, not in our house.

1. The Horse collar/hit to the head was right after an option play after Smith ran out of bounds for 11 yards. O-line had been blocking the other defenders at the time.
2. Another play, Smith had slid, was on the ground, the defender jumped on him on the ground. Can't pin that on the o-line.
3. Facemask on another run by Smith, what do you expect the o-line to do?

These and other cheap shots are not the o-line's fault. It's the ref's job to protect the players, not let them get destroyed every play.

If UW can't beat cal poly and Idaho with kirkegaard then we are the worst team in college football. Then, we have a buy week. Smith should get a month to recover.

I hope Smith plays or Colby has a good week of practice, because he didn't give me the warm fuzzies in the short time he was on the field. Our running game will need to step it up as well, but we did average over 5ypc...better than Toledo. And our defense will need to show up. The long 3rd down conversions by Toledo killed us as did the 3 turnovers.

The new top 25 just came out....Toledo's only loss was in OT at #24 Arizona. If we had Brett for that last drive who freaking knows.

The time is now for the Pokes to run off 10 in a row. :D

Sometimes.. and I've seen this in college football before.. where an offensive lineman will eat a 15 yard penalty and knock some defensive player flat on his ass for something like hitting a QB late with no penalty after a play is over. Usually sends a message to the rest of the defense that late hits aren't going to be tolerated by the offensive line. Perhaps Nick Carlson needs to send a message like that in the future.

Hallelujah, exactly my point, this shit was going on from the beginning of the game to the end of the game, should have been nipped in the butt the first time it happened and it would have set the tone for the rest of the game. It wasn't and we all see how that turned out.

Montana had a center, JD Quinn (of Oklahoma taking cash fame), who had a nasty streak in him.. during a playoff game a few years ago someone late hit a WR and it didn't draw a penalty. Next play Quinn found the guy and totally leveled him after the play. The Griz backed up 15 yards and it led to a punt, but the tone of the game totally changed after that. Small sacrifice for a long term gain. I'm sure the coaching staff at UW would be fairly opposed to this practice, but sometimes a necessary job to do.
