This is one thing that seperates UNM from the rest,

Their fans and athletes are very classy and courteous in defeat. A lot of teams could learn a lot from the Lobo fans. Those guys are our brothers from another mother.

Good game Lobos. I'm sure you'll give us hell in the Pit.

Other than "the brawl" at the Pit under McClain, WYO and UNM has held a mutual respect for one another, from fans to the players.
I've always enjoyed their conf rivalry.

A lot of the UNM fans are pretty cool and took their loss well (especially considering some UNLV fans STILL harass us about beating them), though some on the LoboLair are pretty sad.

Lobo fans were very supportive of Wyoming in postseason events held in ABQ (NCAAT, NCAAWT, even the NM Bowl) and I have always appreciated that. I know the same would not be true of other fan bases in the MWC (or former fan bases in the MWC).

I've always liked New Mexico cause they're kinda like the desert version of us. Their hoops team has done nothing but represent our conference well. They have a passionate fan base as well.

Oh those classy oops I mean TRASHY UNLV fans. Where is that Dave Rice fan boy by the way? Is he too busy trying to help Dave put the wheels back on? I like UNLV teams but after this Greenwood incident their fans seem as trashy as that city or just straight up psychotic and delusional like the Dave Rice fan boy. That poor guy....I'd hate to live in his reality ahahahah.

At about 10:30 p.m. Saturday Greenwood tweeted his thanks to UW Athletics and Coach Shyatt for the support and recognizing his "mum's" battle with cancer. #classy

That's exactly right.

I've been to the Pit a few times, to one of their football games, and around them a lot in the Vegas MWC tournaments. A few things:

They love their basketball. (With football, though I have less experience around them for that, it always seems they just roll their eyes at the futility NM exhibits on the field.)

They are very, very knowledgeable fans, on both the men's and women's side. Without exaggeration, every time I'm in Vegas I get in a bunch of conversations with NM fans who can give a complete rundown of the strengths and weaknesses of every MWC team's roster, and every coach. It's kind of amazing.

While they live and die with UNM hoops, Wyoming is second -- distant second, you know how that goes -- for them, as they would like UW to thump everybody but them. Not sure why, but it seems to be something like we are cousins, schools without all the advantages but with salt-of-the-earth fans who aren't assholes.

When I'm in Wyoming gear walking out of the Thomas and Mack and into the parking lot, I'd say I get on average about four offers of beers from those good people.

I agree 100% . I had two New Mexico fans behind me at the game and they are very knowledgable basketball fans for sure. They were also very complimentary of our players. The one guy kept saying how fearless josh adams was and called him"legit". They also didn't want their defense leaving Riley open from 3 either. They were pretty cool as we went back and forth(in good nature)for the whole game. When the dust settled and wyoming won I shook their hands and told them thanks for coming and that the game could have went either way.It was their first trip to the dome and they said they had fun and said that they would be back again. They also mentioned that they have never been that close to the court in a game at the pit. All in all ,what a great day Saturday was to b a wyoming fan in the dome!

I, too, have always appreciated having New Mexico in our conference with us. Not only are they a really good program, but UNM is a university I am pleased for UW to be associated with academically (unlike "schools" such as Fresno State and BSu).

Besides, I have to be nice because I see a former Lobo at Thanksgiving each year and he represents UNM well.
