The statue of Kenny is a great way to honor our past.

If you haven't figured it out yet, or if you never had a chance to talk to Kenny, he's living history. He's one of the nicest most humble people you'll ever meet. He embodies everything a Cowboy should be: he doesn't talk crap on twitter, he doesn't like to take credit for his accomplishments, he has a relationship with god and acknowledges it(without being pushy), and he bleeds brown and gold.

Let me be the first to say thank you for those that made this happen. They're building a statue of a man that I want my kids to look up to. He's old school. He's an athlete and a roll model.

So raise a glass for Kenny. This is long overdue.

Nicest guy I have even talked to. I loved it when they unveiled the statue design

Yeah, he's a great guy. The AA is going to be first class when it's all finished. That statue is just a great honor for the athlete's that are roll models and those are a dying breed.

Not sure if they have more than one artist working on this statue, but I can tell you one of them working on it is a great guy as well and it's going to look fantastic.

Too bad the primary donor involved in the statue is such a huge douchebag. Probably have his name stamped all over it, the arrogant prick.

The AA isnt changing it's name. The court may be called Maury Brown Court. The club section will be the McMurry club section.

Still, with us honoring Kenny with the statue, I'm not upset we had to sell naming rights to the court.

I like this article but what the fuck does Vorel mean, "not overly successful"? His Missouri Tigers don't have a national championship. Wyoming has two.

How many teams have two titles?

Anyway, this is a good read about the statue, aside from Vorel's jab at Wyoming's basketball history in an article intended to honor Wyoming's basketball history.

A lot of folks on here use our NCs like we won them only a few years ago. We won them over 60 years ago! Should we be proud of them? Absolutely! But our fan base needs a. Little dose of reality. We don't have a storied history in NCAA hoops. We have a couple short chapters, surrounded by many more years of obscurity. We need to celebrate our past, but stop trying to live in it.

Right. Does he have to refer to the program as not successful, or can he just write a fucking article honoring Kenny without having to get a back handed jab in at the Wyoming basketball program? Missourri sucks and they cover up rape cases. Blow me Vorel.

Vorel has been one of the best sports writers to cover the Pokes in years! Unlike most of the folks in the past, he doesn't reach out and try to make something wrong out of nothing. In the last 20 years, arguably the most important in modern sports history, what has Wyoming produced to brag about? One NCAA tourney run!

I whole-heartidly agree that Kenny Sailors is a local legend and think that the statue is a great idea! I can't believe we haven't done something like this earlier. Or hung the banners from the NCs back in 1934 and 43 (I think those were the years, but if could be mistaken).

My bad, we made TWO tourney appearances...

So why did he even have to include the chapter about Wyoming's not successful basketball history? Does that somehow make it more of an honor that we're building a statue for Kenny? Why didn't he delete the crap that just annoys Wyoming fans and include a chapter focusing on the accomplishments of the man you're honoring: like his two player of the year awards, his tourney MVP award....

Vorel's a gossip columnist at best. All he serves up is fluff surrounded by back handed compliments and east coast bias.

I'll be anxiously awaiting his next piece on how the pregame meal affects the nerves of a free throw shooter.

Lol, are you being for real right now?

Yeah. He's a hack. Most of his articles aren't even about sports. They're about off the field drama that athletes experience.

So far, you're the only one with your panties in a bunch...

I agree with Junky that the paragraph doesn't really fit that particular article.

I also agree with kd, 71 years is a LONG time to still be boasting over. 80 years is even longer. To put it in perspective, I find it annoying when BYU talks about 1984....

While Vorel is right, we haven't been all that successful, it makes no sense to write it in this particular piece. It's not THAT big of deal, however. Deep breaths...

I will admit that it wasn't the best place to have that particular section, but I can see what he was doing. There are three or four other sports writers trying to write the same story with all the exact same information. He was trying to add something that wasn't covered in the other four dozen stories about the statue. I still think Vorel is an outstanding writer and has covered the Cowboys admirably since since he's been in Wyo. He doesn't try to find negative stories to write about UWa no the programs...if anything, he tries to elevate the university and introduce the state to the young men who have shed blood and tears for us. He writes his stories in a way that lifts up the program and out athletes. We, as a state, are fortunate to have a guy like Vorel covering our beloved Pokes.

I think we need to do more to honor our former greats and not wait until they are in their 90's. I'd like to see a Theo Ratliff, Flynn Robinson, Reggie Slater, and Fennis Dembo jersey hanging in the AA in the near future.

It would show our great tradition and be a huge sell for recruits to see this tradition.

Not to mention a Marcus Bailey one too.

And in the next couple years, hopefully a Larry Nance and Josh Adams one too!
