The refs fucked us, Smith, and the game.

Just got back, and the refs let the Toledo defense get away with late hits all game. Smith was just the icing on the cake. Not to mention the phantom fumble.

It sounded like the refs refusal to call borderline late hits directly led to smiths injury.

Pretty much.

No excuses, defense has some major issues, especially running on the edge and blown coverages. But the refs were no help either.

I was at the game and I hope the refs feel bad about the injury because they didn't call late hits worth a dang the whole game. If they would be strict from moment one like they are supposed to be then Brett Smith does not go off the field in a stretcher today. I don't care about the game right now, I just hope Brett is ok.

I was at the game as well. First, it was not a phantom fumble. Second, it wasn't a late hit that got Smith injured, it was a horse collar.

We lost because our defense can't get any penetration at the lne of scrimmage. No pass rush whatsoever and we just let their receivers run wild all over the field. We never bump them at the line of scrimmage.

Lastly, there were 2 first and goals where we had to settle for field goals. Our O-line did not do the job in the red zone.

Looked like it from my angle, oh well.

Looked like both from my angle, but if you were on the other side, I guess you had a better look at it than I did.

I noticed that.

Been saying all week that they had major issues if more than 4 defenders rushed them.

I hate to get on Smith but his second INT was god awful (Lead to a TD), Burns had a pic six that wouldve been huge (followed by a missed FG) Trey Norman had a god awful drop on a deep ball (We turned it over on downs and they went down and scored) and they converted on at least 3 first downs after being at least 15 yards away from the first down, the fumble didnt look like a fumble to me but the RB didnt argue he was just mad at himself (They went down and got at least a FG) WE SCREWED OURSELVES. Sure the refs made some poor calls, very poor, but we BEAT OURSELVES

Agreed we were our own worst enemy, correctable mistakes however

Overall, I'm very disappointed in our defense. They could not get off the field in the second half. Our defensive front was totally dominated.

I thought Brett was great except for the 2 picks. He is asked to do so much, that it would amazing if he didn't have at least 1 turnover a game. I thought he threw some incredibly accurate passes into really small windows. No sophmore slump - he is a tremendous talent.

This is the only part of your post I disagree with. He didn't get a concussion from the horse collar, he got a concussion from this:

I'm sorry but the picture clearly shows after the horse collar which is the guy on the ground behind him, Smith getting plastered by a Toledo defender while he is on his knees clearly out of bounds that's the white line that his knees are on.

Not sure what you were looking at but that was the definition of a cheap shot and most definitely aided in the injury of his head hitting hard enough to knock him out.

Piss poor officiating the whole game. Toledo was given at least two firsts that should have been punts. The hit on Brett was dirty and I hope they feel like assholes

I'm sure that Toledo came into the game with the intent to hit Brett a lot and razzle him a bit. I'm sure our team would have liked to have hit their QB and do the same. The problem is that it sounded as though they were purposely hitting him late and doing some "extra" things. I can live with missed holding and other calls, but with the direction football has taken, it's crazy to think that a few of them were not flagged earlier. What happens when you don't get flagged? You do a little more. You push the bounds of what you can get away with. From the sounds of it, if this were the NFL, they would have been flagged several more times. If you aren't hitting the QB as he's throwing or you are just about hitting him, you will be flagged for a late hit. You cannot take extra steps to hit a QB after he has thrown. You sure the hell can't hit a QB that has slid, which I heard brett got hit after a slid. You can't even touch his helmet.

I'm sure the coach told his kids to get after Brett because he knew that we are on Brett's shoulders. If you aren't getting flagged, then i'm sure you don't really think you are doing much wrong. I'm not going as far as the Gowyogo board and calling Toledo thugs, but I'm sure they know they probably crossed the bounds of what they knew in their heart was clean.

The phantom fumble, the bucking horse on the 50 kicked it out, that is the only explanation I can come up with. To bad it was 15 yards to the home team sideline when it happened.

The defense was horrific, no doubt about that....but another major issue was the sub-par O-Line play. Smith was running for his life all day! UW will see defenses MUCH better than what Toledo gave them yesterday. This is worrisome, cause I doubt that's not the last time Smith gets drilled this year. CDC is going to have a to be wise with what he does with Brett. If that kid gets hit again.....whoa....they're making lawsuits for stuff like that nowadays.

Wyoming lost this game, not the refs. Brett got hurt because they refs swallowed their whistles all game instead of controlling the action like they should.

Norman dropping the deep pass in the first half was the turning point of the game. That was the prettiest pass I've ever seen, and would have put us up 3 scores. Instead we had to start playing conservatively. Also, when we are on the 1 foot line you LINE UP IN THE HEAVY SET AND RUN THE FUCKING BALL!!! That was a 4 point swing that we could NOT afford.

The refs were piss poor, but the Pokes were worse. Uninspired is an understatement to how we played.
