The Great Depression of Wyoming Athletics

This era in Wyoming athletics should be refered as the great depression. We have last place caliber teams in both major sports, with no hope for conference championships in the foreseable future. Our Womens Basketball has been competive but they haven't won any conference banners and probably won't anytime soon. Wrestling is up but wrestling and womens basketball can not be considered major sports for wyoming (huge number of fans don't go out to see these teams, has womens bball ever sold a regular season game?) What is going to happen to the fan base? Are younger fans going to identify with the university? My worst fear is that fan apathy reaches a point were the majority of students at the university are no longer fans (they become fans of nebraska, utah, & boise st and only go to UW because of cheap schooling).

It is a shitty time to be a Wyoming fan. Man, I need a beer.

I think all the Cowgirls naysayers are fucking crazy. I think they could pull it off this year

Wyo wrestling and wbb are the only sports we are revelant at they both can and are very capable of winning their respective conferences. Pokes wrestling should be the favorite, we should lock Branch up for the next 34 years

It already happens. If they come up to my desk in another schools apparel, I will always remind them what school they attend. No one on campus is excited about the border war and most students won't identify with our football team. Having a winner is important but changing the overall culture is more important. The University doesn't even attempt to do that. That is what boils my blood.

While I agree in principle (and it's why I am so critical of Tom Burman), I don't think you are accurate in regards to Women's Basketball. The Women's Basketball team averages more than CSU does for Men's BB and if actual attendance (rather than tickets sold) were counted I would be that the Women would outdraw the UW men this year.

Not if they play like they did at Creighton. That was every bit as ugly as the men's performance in Greeley. Not enough scoring options this year. Emma ditching the Cowgirls at that late date really hurt the program.
