Svboda to TE

Rather than JC, I'd look for a D1 transfer to push Anderson. We need competition at every position in my opinion. If I were PBJ, I'd take the approach of "we won 3 games; no job, including mine, is safe".

Honestly, it's pretty cool that he got to go out as a QB the way he did.

Ya, he sucks as a QB overall and I'm glad he's never going to take another snap as one again...but he's a human being and a kid that had hopes and dreams and put in a lot of work. At least he got to experience the high of playing his very best when it counted and toppling a team like Wazzu.

After missing on Svoboda so badly this season, you would think Sawvel would keep the QB position open for competition for as long as he can to ensure he starts the best player in week 1.

However, reading into his comments, it seems like he has pretty much decided Anderson will be the starter, some unknown JC guy will be the back-up, and Drube will redshirt.

In all realty, this is the most likely scenario even with an open competition all the way through fall camp, but why lock yourself into this idea the December prior to next season? Drube will be with the team this spring - what if he comes in and lights it up? Is Sawvel still going to redshirt him and stick with Anderson no matter what?

If you watched Sawvel's presser, he very specifically said that if there's a situation where Drube comes in and straight up beats everyone out, then so be it.

It's still a good idea to have a general plan in place to start out with, and his plan isn't that much different from how Bohl or numerous other G5 coaches operate. But he didn't lock himself into anything.

I did not see his press conference, so thank you for pointing that out. That makes me feel better.

I totally agree that the HC should have a general plan. I just don't think he needs to announce it to the media/public. If he ends up having to veer away from the stated plan, then it just creates more questions and explaining that he has to do.

What he should say is something like, "The QB position, like all positions on the team, will be an open competition all the way through the offseason. We will name a starter at some point in fall camp".

I think this is why Bohl got so pissy with the media sometimes when they pushed too hard on any given subject. Lol.

Coaches are often put between a rock and a hard place with a) being transparent and giving answers when put on the spot by journalists pressing for quotes (especially early on, like now), and b) getting flack for keeping things too close to the chest and being vague. All the while they also have to keep in mind that the players see what it said by their coaches to the media as well.

And we all wanna have our cake and eat it too regarding information.

I get that's part of why coaches get paid the big bucks. But yea, idk...I'm not gonna nitpick at it too much. He said "Look, this is our general plan, it's one that's pretty common and straightforward...but as always, if a dude comes in and just lights it up, then it is what it is and we'll adjust."

You can't hold everyone's hands and babysit their interpretation of what you say all the time, ya know?

Pokes did offer a QB from Riverside Community College this week...
I would assume this must be Brady Jones.

He put up prolific numbers at Riverside. Not sure how his skill set would translate to FBS football, but it wouldn't be a bad pick-up.

Well said. He got to start for a significant amount of time and really give it a go. He just didn’t have it. Many kids don’t ever get their shot in prime time and will always wonder how they’d do being in the #1 spot.
