Storming the court after beating CU?

No offence to my fellow students

However, I still think it was unnecessary.

We have won 5 times straight and 13 times out of last 17 games

(it might be 6 times straight and 14 out of 18 now)

We also lead all time series vs CU.

It wasn't worth storming the court.

We aren't CSU and ain't sorry for a win against CU.

I for one like all of you have great pride in our bb.

It just hurts pride I have in Cowboy basketball.

Just my opinion

So, it's wrong to celebrate a big win then? Sorry, but unless they are hurting anything (other than CU's pride a bit), I don't have a problem with them storming the court after a big win. Especially the way the CU fans were going, always good to rub it in those hippies' faces.

Agree completely with the OP.
I also despise the "over rated" chants. A "we're under rated" chant would have been better

Still annoyed all of my variations of Dirty Hippie chants never took hold. My section laughed at them but alas they went largely unnoticed

I don't care about storming the court. Whatever, if some students had a good time and tell there fellow students how much fun it is to go to games, I'm all for it! I hate overrated chant!

We haven't beat an OOC ranked team in how long? don't take the small joy from the students that helps them be more energetic with the athletics program. Nothing wrong with rushing the floor when your team has been pretty terrible for a while. Biggest crowd we have had in a while as well just because you remember the good times @ the AA is no reason to get down on students who never got to experience those same times and they are just now getting a small taste of it.

No problems with it for a few different reasons.
1. Students enjoy this probably more than anything and it will have people talking to their friends and hopefully bring out more people the rest of the way.
2. The CU students at the top of the AA, always nice to rub it in when they act like what we have already mentioned.
3. Creates a more energetic student section for the future, and one that believes we will beat ranked opponents again.
4. Haven't beaten a ooc ranked team since 2002.

I agree with the OP. There is no reason to storm the court unless it is a championship game or if you beat a top 5 team. Otherwise it is ridiculous.

Now on the other hand this doesn't just happen at Wyoming. It is happening EVERYWHERE in basketball and also football with students storming the field.
Because of the social media nowadays with facebook, twitter and being able to text message you have the students texting each other to storm the court and what not.

They actually had a huge thing over this exact topic up here in Seattle after the Washington Husky students stormed the football field after beating Stanford this year and the radio hosts thought it was ridiculous because of the fact that Washington use to be a perennial top 10 football team every year and they used to beat Stanford on a regular basis. They came to the conclusion after a bunch of people called in that it is happening at every school now because of the social media and the way kids are these days.

So while I don't agree with storming the court unless it's for a championship game I'm not going to make a big fuss over it since every student at every university is doing it almost seemingly after everytime their team wins a game these days over any opponent. It's just the way things are now.

it's ok imo....they were a top 20 team we man handled them and correct, if we do this it'll bring even more people to the AA to help us get even more vocal and loud, I did notice lack of creativity in the cheers, I was trying from the days of old and most of those kids, turned around and looked at me, I told them take it and run with it....anytime we can beat a top 20 team and a Pac 12 team we'll storm the court more often than not, now if it was against Okla Panhandle St, then I'd have an issue with it....bring it on, here's looking to a wonder non conf season and an interesting conference season... GO POKES

Geez - no wonder nobody shows up for the games anymore. Get called out for rushing the court after beating a ranked opponent. Chants are all wrong. Didn't make enough noise, etc, etc.

Let them have their fun. It may be the only time they get to rush the court while at UW. Who knows...

Agreed. But not really a big deal. Happens everywhere and they are having fun. On the other hand I hate the "overrated" chant with a passion. Nothing like diminishing your own accomplishment. Luckily I never heard overrated take off too much. Got started a couple times but never too loud.

The student section had a great turn out which was great to see but they still need some work on getting cheers and chants going. I think it will come with time. Of course they will never live up to my (probably exagerated) memories of the student section when I used to be in the front row of the "Sixth Man Club" during the Bailey, Davis years.

Yes you got to experience a student section most people will never experience.

Anyone have any pics of the game? I had to shamefully put away my Cowboy football posters in my cube after this years embarassing outcome and I need something else to put up.

There's nothing wrong with rushing the court after beating a ranked team. Students were celebrating a big win with their team! I guarantee the players enjoyed it, it was a big win for our up and coming program. And last, rushing the court is fun... Because this game was fun I'd expect more and more students to continue to show up and the kids that were there that usually aren't, I expect them to return. Quit dogging the students for celebrating a big win and showing the players the love they deserve

We just beat a non conference top 25 team for the first time in decades, it is completely ok and expected to storm the court. Good lord people let the fans celebrate something good for a change

Some of you sound like the old guys on the rivals site.

I'm glad that the student presence is back at the AA. Let the students have their fun...and you can bet the recruits in attendance sure liked to see Wyoming's enthusiasm for athletics. The players also seemed to be pretty glad that their fellow students decided to enjoy the win with them on the court.

...I do agree that we may have a problem if we storm the court for Oklahoma Panhandle State haha

Agree with the OP, mostly because I was on the court when the guys beat Utah to win the championship in 2002. That was worth rushing the court, lifting the team up on our shoulders, and watching them cut down the nets. Awesome.

But I'm not going to take anything away from these kids. They haven't had anything to get this excited about (from a sports perspective) in a long time, other than the women winning the NIT. As long as this doesn't become a "let's rush the court every time we win" thing like it did for CSewe, I'm ok with it.

Let's face it... we beat a ranked team. And we didn't just barely beat them in a nail-biter, we beat them the way I've always hoped Wyoming athletic teams would. Soundly. With no question at the end of the game.

Here's hoping that the team continues with this type of performance. And here's hoping the students and fans who were there bring ten friends with them next time. This team deserves all of our support!

GO POKES!
