Football Spring Training Winding Down. . .
There are just five practices remaining for Cowboy football before the Spring Game which is scheduled for April 21, at 2 p.m. in War Memorial Stadium. The Cowboys will scrimmage for the second time this training period tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the stadium. That practice is open to the public. The Pokes will then practice Friday, and next Monday, Wednesday and Friday prior to the game on the 21st. Head Coach Dave Christensen released his first two-deep of the spring yesterday. Lots of familiar faces, the defense has eight upper classmen listed as starters--five seniors and three juniors--while the offense has six--two seniors and four juniors. As we know, the depth chart is ever-changing, and nothing is set in stone.

Fun Day Planned in Conjunction with Spring Game. . .
Prior to the Spring Game on April 21, the Cowboy team will be involved in a Football Fun Day scheduled from 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in War Memorial. The Spring Game begins at 2 p.m. As a fund-raiser for the Wyoming In Haiti initiative (organized by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes), the event will raise money to help defray travel costs for the Cowboys and Cowgirls who are going to Haiti May 7-13. On the 21st, the entire football team will be on Jonah Field to work with children as well as sign autographs. The event is limited to youth eighth grade and under. Special Wyoming In Haiti t-shirts will be available at the fun day for $15 with $10 of that total going to the cost of the trip. These shirts, as shown below, are currently available online or at the Brown 'N Gold Outlet.

Donations will also be accepted at the Spring Game. To date 70 percent of the $40,000 needed for the trip has been raised, according to the trip organizer, Aaron Frude of the FCA. To donate to this terrific initiative, please contact Frude at 307-760-1391 or visit here.

From the Ticket Office. . .
As a reminder, the football season ticket renewal deadline is April 30. For those who have not had season tickets in the past and would like to purchase them, they are now available online and at the ticket office for $195.

We Will Miss Him. . .
We were all very sad to hear of the passing of Duane Schopp who died last Saturday after a battle with cancer. Schopp was the track coach at Wyoming from 1984 through 1997. He was the athletics director at Cheyenne Central High School for a number of years as well. A memorial service is scheduled for this Saturday at 10 a.m. at Cheyenne's Storey Gym. A reception will follow at Cheyenne Central. A great guy with an engaging personality, Schopp led Wyoming's cross country team to three conference titles and an NCAA appearance. He was named the Western Athletic Conference's Coach of the Year six times.

Around the Chutes. . .
A big weekend is on tap for the Wyoming outdoor track and field team as the Cowboys and Cowgirls host their only home meet of the year this Saturday at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. Northern Colorado will be in town to compete with Wyoming. The meet is scheduled for noon.

The Cowgirl tennis team, which split a weekend home series with TCU and New Mexico last week, takes on arch rival Colorado State Saturday at Ft. Collins. The event begins at 1 p.m. Wyoming lost to the Horned Frogs last Saturday, 5-2, then bounced back for a 6-1 victory over the Lobos on Sunday.

Congrats to five Wyoming Cowboy swimmers and one diver for being selected as Academic All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation honorees. Seniors Marshall Dilworth, Brandon Fischer and Valentin Schwarz earned their first MPSF awards. Dilworth (3.28 GPA) and Schwarz (3.20) earned their fourth straight academic all-conference award, while Fischer (3.18) earned his third. Junior Trevor LeValley earned his third-straight academic honor with the highest GPA of 3.85. Sophomore Ethan Griffel (3.39) earned his second academic honor and fellow sophomore Jayce Calhoon (3.15) earned his first recognition.
