The Magic 20. . .
How about that Cowboy basketball team! What a remarkable season Larry Shyatt and his team have produced. Winning 20 games--with games still to be played--is quite an accomplishment in the high country. Until this team reached that pinnacle last evening, there had been just 18 teams in the long history of Cowboy basketball to win at least 20 games in a season. That alone makes it special. But the long road this team has been on--especially those seniors--has given us a unique and wonderful set of memories. To know this group is to know how special it is. These Cowboys are good people. They don't create problems on or off the court. Most certainly they are problem solvers. None of them made any excuses about the past or let it erode their goals. As Shyatt said they really didn't have much reason to trust the new coaching staff. They didn't know any of them. But they quickly bought into the Shyatt system. The head coach would say time after time that these Cowboys knew exactly who they weren't, and knew exactly who they were. It was a group willing to buy in, and hang on to the belief that it could be successful if it worked harder than everybody on the schedule. The sacrifice and hard work these Cowboys gave to the program will long be remembered. It's not over yet. There are still more chapters to be written, more stories to tell.

If you haven't purchased your tickets for the 2012 Conoco Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Championships, you will have to work through the UNLV ticket office, their number is 702-739-3267. The UW Ticket Office is sold out of its allotment. Also, for those of you who have purchased tickets, you should have received them in the mail by now. In case you haven't, call the ticket folks at 877-WYO-FAN.

NCAA Wrestling Tickets in the Mail. . .
If you purchased tickets for the NCAA Wrestling Tournament in St. Louis March 15 through March 17, your tickets are in the mail. NCAA wrestling is really some special event, especially as well as the Cowboys have been wrestling, and the excellent seeds they should earn. The Cowboys are in the Western Wrestling Conference Championships Sunday at Cedar Falls, IA., and are expected to compete very well there.

Don't Forget Wyoming Sports Today. . .
Just a reminder, you can hear Dave Walsh's Wyoming Sports Today weekdays on the affiliates of the Cowboy Sports Network or by logging on to www.wyomingathletics.com. Wyoming Sports Today is the daily show that highlights University of Wyoming Athletics throughout the sports season. The March and April shows are presented by The Golf Club at Devils Tower which will offer exclusive non-member tee times on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during the 2012 golf season.

Cowboy Joe Club News. . .
There is little time remaining to get yourself involved in the Club's on-line auction. The auction will shut down at 6 p.m. MT this evening. Historically the final day is when bidders get down to business. Participate in the fun while there's still time. See all the items!

The Carbon County Fund Drive is currently underway, and the Cowboy Joe Club is having a Watch Party/Wrap up at the Platte Valley Community Center in Saratoga this Saturday at 7 p.m. What will they be watching? Why the Cowboy-Rebel basketball game of course. Complimentary appetizers and a limited cash bar will be available at the party. The Club wants to thank all of the Carbon County Volunteers, Amy and Scott Bach, Tammy Mortensen, Rod Milliken, Kathleen and Doug Campbell, Marcy Cooley and Jon Braun.

If you are headed to Las Vegas for the conference basketball tournament, be sure to join the Cowboy Joe Club and the Alumni Association for a pre-game hospitality at Ferraro's Italian Restaurant at Las Vegas. The pregame will begin two-and-a-half hours prior to each Cowboy and Cowgirl tournament game and end 30 minutes before tipoff. Food and beverages will be available to order off the menu. Ferraro's is located at 4480 Paradise Road.

The response for the Club's Sun and Fun Weekend in Scottsdale, in late March has been overwhelming. There are still a very limited number of spots available for the weekend which includes Rockies' baseball and the golf tournament at Talking Stick. Please contact the Cowboy Joe Club at 307-766-6242 to register and for more information. In addition to golf and Rockies-Cubs baseball, some Cowboy lettermen that have made their mark in the NFL will be on hand. The Club is expecting Chris Prosinski, John Wendling, Mitch Unrein, Malcom Floyd and possibly Derrick Martin to be there for the weekend.

Around the Chutes. . .
Oh to be a collegiate golfer. The Cowgirls open the spring portion of their season at Sedona, Arizona--wouldn't mind being there right about now--Friday and Saturday as they compete in the Northern Arizona Red Rocks Invitational. The event is scheduled for the Oakcreek Country Club. The Cowgirls had an excellent fall season and are coming off their first back-to-back top-three finishes under head coach Josey Stender.

The Cowgirl tennis team hosts a pair of home matches this weekend at the Indoor Tennis Facility. On Friday they meet Denver at 2 p.m., and then on Saturday, Wichita State is in town for an 11 a.m. match.

A big day Sunday for Wyoming's nationally ranked wrestling program. The Cowboys compete at the Western Wrestling Conference Championships at Cedar Falls, Iowa. The event will be important for a couple of Cowboys to qualify for the NCAA meet, and for several others to improve their seeding position. We know one thing; Mark Branch will have his team ready to compete at a high level.

Congratulations to Joe Plante and Erin Kirby of the Cowboy and Cowgirl indoor track teams. Both were named All-Conference by the Mountain West.

Also congrats to eight Cowgirl swimmers--Kelsey Conci, Morgan Hartigan, Jordan Denny, Jessy Badaracco, Caludia Carlson, Kasey Robinson, Meghan Swirzcki and Stephanie Young and members of three relay teams who earned All-Mountain West honors.

We'd like to welcome two new members of the athletic family. Robin Ross, a 36-year veteran of the football coaching business, who was hired as the Cowboys' linebackers coach, and Tori Mottl, who is the newest member of the business office as a senior accounting associate.
