What a Fall. . .
All returns aren't quite in yet, but Wyoming's Fall sports have produced outstanding seasons. While football still has three games to play (including a bowl game, now doesn't that sound nice?), the Cowgirl soccer and volleyball seasons have been completed. Danny Sanchez' soccer team earned its way to the Mountain West Conference Championship match. The volleyball team closed out the season 21-11, 9-5 in conference play, and won its opening match of the conference tournament over host New Mexico. The Cowgirls gave Colorado State, the eventual champion, all it wanted in the semi-finals. Both programs placed individuals on the all-tournament teams. Football isn't done, but as we know has earned a bowl opportunity. With so many factors involved, it is too early to know where the Cowboys will play in the post season. The bowl games in which the Cowboys are most likely to compete are the Gildan New Mexico Bowl (December 17, noon) the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl (December 21, 6 p.m. MST), and the Advocare Independence Bowl (December 26, 2 p.m. MST). Click here for more information.

As soon as the bowl pairings are announced New Horizons Travel will be putting together a Cowboy Football Bowl package. Fans may call 800-864-4364 or email Jill at [email protected] to reserve their bowl travel package.

Tis the Season for Hoops. . .
Both men's and women's basketball programs are in full swing, and face a busy Thanksgiving week. The Pokes host South Dakota tonight at 7 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium before their holiday tournament this weekend. The Jim Thorpe Classic opens Friday and runs through Sunday. Friday's games feature Maryland Eastern Shore and Louisiana Tech at 4:30, followed by the Cowboys and Portland State at 7 p.m. Saturday's matchups are Louisiana Tech and Portland at 3:30 p.m. and Maryland Eastern Shore and Wyoming at 6 p.m. On Sunday Portland State and Marland Eastern Shore play at 3:30 p.m., and Louisiana Tech and Wyoming at 7 p.m.

The Cowgirls are on the road for their tournament this week competing at the Loyola-Marymount event in Los Angeles. Northern Iowa, Youngstown State, the Cowgirls and the host will compete in the two-day tourney. The Cowgirls open play on Friday against Northern Iowa.

It's Black Friday in the Ticket Office. . .

The UW Athletic Ticket Office is getting into the holiday season by having a Black Friday Sale of its own. The Cowboy and Cowgirl Conference Plan is on sale for this Friday only. The Cowboy Conference Plan--which includes the seven conference games--is normally $84 which is a pretty good deal anyway. For this Friday only, that plan is only $77! The sale includes the Cowgirl Conference Plan as well. That plan is usually $64 for the Cowgirl conference home schedule. This Friday only that plan is just $59! Go online or contact the ticket office this Friday to take advantage of the conference plan. The sale is this Friday and this Friday only.

Don't Forget the Football Banquet. . .
The annual football Senior Recognition Banquet should be quite an event. The date is December 4, at 2 p.m. at the Yellowstone Ballroom at the UW Student Union. Awards will be presented and the seniors will be recognized. Tickets are $40 and may be ordered through the football office (contact Haley at 307-766-3155).

Cowboy Joe Club News. . .
The Club has announced that renewal requests for 2012 will be going out to the membership the week of December 5.

Around the Chutes. . .
How about Jodi Purdy? Last week she was the Mountain West Conference's Player of the Week. Following the league tournament last weekend, she was selected to the 2011 Mountain West Championship All-Tournament Team. That's the second year in a row she's been selected.

Quarterback Brett Smith earned his second MWC Player of the Week honors following his performance last Saturday against New Mexico. It was Smith's fifth game of the season in which he was responsible for 300 or more total yards offensively. He already has amassed 2,755 yards of total offense which is the record for a freshman. He accounted for 352 yards (212 passing, 140 rushing) against the Lobos. His 69-yard touchdown scamper in the second half was Wyoming's longest run of the season.

While Wyoming's men and women each finished second at the Houston Cougar Classic swimming event last weekend, the diving team was competing at the Wildcat Diving Invitational at Tucson, AZ. Cowboys Joseph Ferreri, Marshall Dilworth and Brandon Fischer won events for the men while Kelsey Conci produced her second NCAA 'B' cut time of the weekend in the 100-yard freestyle. At the Wildcat Diving competition Valentin Schwarz finished in 12th place while Derek Campbell finished the platform in 18th place. Holly Heussner finished the highest forthe Cowgirls placing 23rd.

The wrestling team produced six champions at the Kearney Open last Saturday. Kasey Garnhard won at 125, Shane Onufer at 165, Pat Martinez at 174, Joe LeBlanc at 184 and Alfonso Hernandez at 197. LeBlanc was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler.
