Saturday is Cowboys Tackle Cancer. . .
Nationally-ranked Boise State comes to War Memorial Stadium Saturday for an important contest in many ways. Of great importance is the fact it will be Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., and UW is offering a special package for this special day. The Breast Cancer Awareness Package includes a pink rally towel and game ticket. The Wyoming Foundation for Cancer Care will receive $5 from each package sold. Please note, the package is not available on game day, but may be purchased online here, by phone at 1-877-WYO-FAN1 and at the ticket office. For obvious reasons the Pokes could use all of their fans’ support this Saturday, while helping a terrific cause.
Toys for Tots at the Border War. . .
The game for The Boot will have something additional to make it even more special when CSU is here in two weeks. For that November 3, game UW will be accepting toys and donations for the Toys for Tots program. Fans are asked to bring new, unwrapped toys to the game. Collection receptacles will be located at each entrance to War Memorial Stadium. Help us keep The Boot while donating toys to this very worthwhile Marine Corps’ community program.

For this week Tailgate Park will be open from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., and is free and open to the public. The Park will include Danno and the Have Fun Will Travel Band performing on the Pepsi Stage. Food and beverage vendors will include Pit Crew BBQ, McAlister’s Deli, Shadow’s Pub and Grill, Papa John’s Pizza and Mulligan’s Pub. The Brown ‘N Gold Outlet will be on hand with all of the latest Cowboy gear. The Air Force Academy is in town this Friday to take on the Cowgirl soccer team for Senior Day. Please note the start time has been moved to 3 p.m. at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. It is also Family Friday. A family receives four tickets to the game, four hot dogs and four Pepsi products for ONLY $16. Get a good deal and root on the Cowgirls as they host Air Force.
Sneak-a-Peek and Select-a-Seat Saturday. . .
UW’s second select-a-seat promotion is offering one heck of a deal, and is scheduled for Saturday prior to the Cowboy-Boise State football game. The event will run in the Arena-Auditorium from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Balloons will mark the available seats for season purchase. There will be 150 men’s season tickets sold for $150 (regular price $215) each, and 100 women’s season tickets at $100 (regular price $125) each. Two features added to this week’s promotion will be a Cowgirl autograph session in the Double A concourse beginning at 10:30 a.m., and a Cowboy basketball practice beginning on the Double A floor at 11 a.m. The Cowgirls will be located on the concourse at the Willett West entrance.

Hoops Open Next Week. . .
The Cowgirls and Cowboys tip off their respective seasons with exhibition games next week. On Monday, October 29, the Cowgirls will host Dakota Wesleyan at 7 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium. The Cowboys will begin their season next Wednesday, October 31 with an exhibition game against Ft. Lewis at Wyoming Indian High School at Ethete in central Wyoming. Cost for the game is $10 for adults and $5 for youth, and may be purchased at the door or in advance through the UW athletic ticket office. Both teams will play one more exhibition game prior to opening their regular seasons on November 9 (Cowgirls vs. Idaho) and November 10 (Cowboys vs. Western State). W-Club Event Coming up. . .
All former student-athletes are invited to return to Laramie for the Colorado State game on November 3, for a W-Club Weekend hosted by W-Club Director Jack Tennant and the Cowboy Joe Club. What a great chance to reconnect with UW, and old teammates. Former Cowboys and Cowgirls are invited to a complimentary (for W-Club members) reception in the Wildcatter Stadium Club and Suites beginning at 5:30 p.m. and running through 7 p.m. on Friday evening (November 2). Saturday’s pre-game tailgate will be at the Cowboy Joe Club tent located in Tailgate Park. Gold card members will be admitted free, Brown card members will be charged $5 per person. All W-Club members will be recognized on the field prior to kickoff. Everyone is asked to meet at the stadium’s north end zone. Cowboy Joe Club News. . .
The Club has enjoyed a renewal rate of 85 percent of the 2011 membership as of today which is excellent. The Club goal is to reach at least a 90 percent renewal rate. Some 4,700 members are pledged to the Club as of this week.
Steer-a-Year volunteers are driving throughout the state this week to pick up nearly 100 steers that have been donated to the program. This terrific program generates some $250,000 annually for the Club. Those funds are split among the rodeo club, the Animal Science Department, and the athletics department.

Congrats to Reese Plante, Cowgirl middle blocker, who was named the Mountain West Volleyball Player of the Week. The junior helped Wyoming record its first back-to-back victories in conference play this season. She is the second Cowgirl to earn the honor. Senior outside hitter Jodi Purdy was selected for the award on September 17.
The volleyball team is on the road this week. Tomorrow evening (October 25) the Cowgirls meet Nevada at Reno for an 8 p.m. match. On Saturday (October 27) they battle San Diego State at San Diego at 2 p.m. The Cowgirls return to action on Tuesday (October 30), hosting Regis University in the UniWyo Sports Complex at 7 p.m.
The Cowboy and Cowgirl cross teams are competing at the Mountain West Championships at Las Vegas on Friday.
Cowgirl swimming has a Border War matchup with Colorado State on Saturday (October 27) at noon in Fort Collins.
