APC Subcommittee to Meet. . .
While it flies under the radar, The UW Athletic Planning Committee (APC) is nevertheless a very important part of the intercollegiate athletics program. The Committee reviews, formulates and initiates general and long-range goals, plans and policies pertaining to the intercollegiate department. The APC consists of three subcommittees, Academic Integrity, Fiscal Integrity and Gender/Diversity and Student-Athlete Well-Being (GDSAWB). The APC meets two times per semester while each of its subcommittees also meet twice a semester. We’ll keep you updated on the APC and its subcommittees because of the importance of its work. The GDSAWB subcommittee meets this week, and will discuss a number of topics including: the progress of actively recruiting and hiring under-represented genders in coaching and administration; review of the NCAA Certification Improvement Plan; and its role as liaison to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). The APC chair is Alyson Hagy, UW’s Faculty Athletic Representative, and a member of the GDSAWB subcommittee. Other members of this subcommittee are Jayne Jenkins, chair, Tim Kearley, Tara Evans and Molly Moore.

From the Compliance Office (Boosters and Social Media)…
NCAA rules that regulate contact with prospective student-athletes include not only face-to-face contacts, emails and phone calls, but also any and all contacts through social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter. Even with these new communication techniques, please remember that it is still permissible only for UW coaches to use these sites to recruit prospects. Fans may not initiate or accept “friend” requests of prospects on Facebook, but they can “follow” recruits on Twitter. Fans should never post to a recruit’s “wall” or “like” a public post, reply to a “tweet,” send them any type of direct message, or take any other action that would constitute contacting that recruit. Please remember that while new technology has changed the recruiting world, the basic rules regarding recruitment of student-athletes remains the same. Please leave the recruiting to the coaches. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact our compliance staff. Jessica Kumke, Director of Compliance – (307) 766-4960 or Peter Prigge, Compliance Assistant – (307) 766-3795.
