Spring Superlatives

Hi Cowboys! Husker fan here, who is very much looking forward to our matchup next year. Looks like the board has been a little quiet the past few weeks, so I thought I would start some discussion. The Big Ten Blog has been doing a series called Spring Superlatives, where each team's strongest position and weakest position for the upcoming year are discussed (see Nebraska's, for example).

So I thought it would be a good discussion point for you guys (and a good learning experience for me) to learn what you think Wyoming's "Spring Superlatives" are. Ready... go!

It's been quiet because there is no news to report. The Wyoming coach has closed all practices with the exception of the scrimmages and final spring scrimmage.

Damn, you guys still have Jared Crick? Seems like he has been there forever and he should have monster year.

For Wyoming...
Strongest position: Probably linebacker. Lots of talented guys with a lot of experience under their belt. Brian Hendricks would probably start for most teams in the country, including AQ teams. Oliver Schober is a mammoth of a LB, Devyln Harris shows a lot of potential and everyone else is pretty talented as well.

Weakest position: There are so many.... Even though our Top 3 QB's on our depth chart will have a combined 0 snaps in D-I football, I will still say offensive line. They have got to improve at opening up running lanes and protecting the QB.

Running back is going to be a nice strength for us, a lot of talent there, but the OL has got to open up those lanes. We should be pretty deep at LB. 4-3 should take a nice step forward this year.

What's the scoop on Taylor Martinez? He still going to be a Husker come fall camp?

Yeah, he will be. The thing holding him back is his helicopter dad, not letting Taylor grow up and mature on his own. With his athleticism and starting experience, he has the inside track on the starting QB job, but he is lacking a lot of qualities that a D-I quarterback needs such as not being passive, good ball security, ability to read defenses, and leadership. At this point, I'd say the odds of the starting QB for the Wyoming game is

Taylor Martinez 70%
Brion Carnes 15%
Cody Green 5%
Bubba Starling 5%
Jamal Turner 5%

Too long, did not read: Yes, he's still going to be a Husker, but it's not a given that he will be the starting QB.

That's crazy about Martinez. He certainly looked unprepared a few times last year. The question is always, how good are the blackshirts going to be?

All we know at this time is that the strong point is that morale is high. The weak point is the offense and defense.

I hear the team managers are in for a good season! There is one Redshirt that should be bringing it this year!

The Huskers play Washington again in Week 3 next season. Couldn't imagine playing one team three times in a one year span.

They'll be the strength of the team again. Last year, it was the secondary that led the defense. With all of the seniors moving on, it will be the DL and LBs leading the defense this year. The only thing the defense might not be ready for is the run-oriented Big Ten. We have always been much better at stopping the pass.

I appreciate all of your guys' responses!
