Sporting Event Attendance

We have debated this for years...

"If we had better times."
"If we had a new AD."
"If AA sold beer."
"If The War was renovated."
List goes on and on.

Simple answer. WINNING. The past week has been proof of that. Vegas was packed. Seattle will have a strong showing of Pokes fans. Sure, the beer and such is supplemental for many, but none of those reasons would motivate someone to drive 18 hours to a game unless we thought they could win.

Winning is the key to attendance. I know many of you realize this. So happy for the Pokes tomorrow. Win or lose tomorrow, this team will go down to me as one of the most memorable.

Completely agree. That's why the arena was near capacity when Brandenburg was coach. We had winning teams every year. The better the product, the more people will buy. No matter the result tomorrow, this year will go down as one of the best for me. Here's to a great game tomorrow and thanks to those kids for an entertaining year. I'm proud to be a Cowboy fan.

yeah, BUT, regardless of that I've been thru it all as everyone else has, and yes i've slammed them on many many things, we have to always remember who we really are and that we cannot win them all, as much as we'd love to. We are Wyoming and if we recruit kids that want playing time, want to develop and help a program grow that's what we're all about, I love em thru thick and thin, I'm soooo glad I went to 13 home games this year, 1 at SMU and 1 at New Mexico and yes the championship game in L.V, and now I'm off to Seattle for my life long dream to see us in the NCAA's, what can i say I'm a fanatic...lol Go Pokes make us all proud, not that I'm not already....elated is more like it...lol

We had a full arena because there was 12 blurry channels on the TV, no xbox, no internet and no smart phones. Winning helped I'm sure. Get used to the new dynamic. People would rather stay home and watch on their 55" HDTV, drink their cold beer and not get hassled by Landmark Assholes.

What's different about football games? Tailgating has made the entire day an event. Before we could legally have booze at tailgate the pregame turnout at football games was freaking terrible. Now look at it. It wasn't too long ago there was discussions about WYO not averaging 10k for football. We didn't' start winning championships in football we starting having fun and the people showed up.

I can only imagine what 10k poke fans would sound like in the AA if there was beer being sold. It would be SO LOUD.

To an extent, I agree. This isn't entirely brand new though. I've been to a few football road games where it seemed like there was brown and gold everywhere, but then the following week the team returns to the War for an extremely sparse crowd. Wyo fans got this road trip thing down...it's home attendance that's the issue. There were more fans in Vegas last weekend than a few of the home games at the AA. Personally, I don't think showing up away from home has ever been an issue.

Because everyone is happy to get out of the cold shitty weather and no one is happy about driving to Laramie.

and the great distances to travel anywhere else when you live in Wyoming. Laramie needs a Costco. Attendance would go up 15% across sports if Laramie had a costco
