Something strange just happened

So this is all a what if scenario... But crazy to think about.

Larry retires and wants to return to the east, closer to his family... Ohio is his place. Not sure if his mom and mother in law still there.

Unlv hires Cronin away from Cincinnati, would shyatt be a candidate? Punch me for even thinking such thoughts

First off Shyatt can't coach another college team for a year or else he has to pay back a certain amount of his salary, so any college jobs this year are out of the question for Shyatt to take over.

Cincinnati would never hire Larry Shyatt anyways.

I'm sure if another school really wanted him, they would compensate him for this amount in his new contract. Now having said that, I doubt it happens. My guess is he is either somewhere in the NBA or on the golf course.

I don't see any other college that would want him for a head coaching job. He would have to be an assistant somewhere.

True, there aren't very many openings, but if say....Pitt, who has an opening, wanted to hire him, I doubt paying back part of his salary would be an issue.

***Purely hypothetical***

I guess I'm the only one who takes Shyatt at his word when he says he's done. If he has a change of heart, good for him, but I find it highly unlikely that this was some scheme he came up with just to get out of Wyoming and the Mountain West.

all I was trying to say, is cincy will more than likely be looking for a new head coach... all reports are saying Cronin is close to sealing the contract. So, with the current pool of coaches available, I think matter of factly that Shyatt's name might pop up. He has ties to ohio, his buyout would be change compared to other candidates, and he is well respected in coaching circles everywhere.

I don't think he would be the top of their list... but I do think he would be in consideration.

and... I wouldn't have any ill feeling about it. it honestly wouldn't bother me if he did get the job.

like all you guys, I think he wants to stop coaching for a bit, maybe forever, taking a roll like fran frachilla

Most fail to realize, and most were in disbelief last year when we discussed it here at Wyonation, but Larry was pretty damn close to a move to Oklahoma Schitty last May.

Wouldn't shock me if he ends up there at some point. And buy-out / pay-back or whatever, hell, he sued UW once, he can do it again.

I've heard that he was closer to moving to Dallas than he was OKC

It was my understanding that Dallas transpired prior to OKC and was a mild inquiry...but that OKC was the real temptation - as it would be hooking back up with his former staff (specifically Billy Donovan).

Of course, I wasn't there, or on the phone, or privy to any conversations personally, so who knows.
