So Far...

We may be 4-2, but I think this years team far supersedes last years team, even to this point. We have more depth, consistency in scorers and scoring. We're by far a better free throw shooting team which will help in the tight games.
Our record right not does not show where we really are. But this team plays as a TEAM!
Last year we beat a good CU in Laramie, this year we took it to them but came up short on the road in Boulder. Our other loss, a hard fought game against the #7/8 Ohio St. Bucks. Both have been extremely tough road contests, and this team played their hearts out (for the most part).
I expect this team to start making noise. Finishing off OOC well and taking to the MWC far better than we have yet under Shyatt. These two road games have shown me that this team will be playing everyone in the League tough. And by conference play we should have Sellers back, which he may not be much on Offense, but I've been told is pretty scrappy on D and rebounding. He will be able to help us with depth between Nance and Cooke, especially when their in foul trouble.
I have a feeling that we have finally turned a point in Basketball and we are going to start seeing some great things!

The Big Ten TV announcers, I think were surprised that the Pokes hung around so long. They did admit that they were a good team and commented on how good they were at passing. Of course Nance got all the attention with clips of his father and many pans to him in the audience.

Everyone keeps saying, "watch out for Denver and SMU" but seriously, I think we need to be watching out for Northern Colorado. These guys are good. They beat KSU in Manhatten. They only lost by 4 at NM St. And by 7 at CSU. Keep your eye on this one.

No, I don't see this team losing in OOC play again.
Some decent tests sure, but nothing real major.
Nance might have just had his turning point as a basketball player. Hankerson and Granberry are getting more comfortable. Cooke has figured out how to score.
Smu, NoCo, and DU might be challenges, but should be very winnable for the Pokes.
Next big steps I want to see from this team are Trey Washington growing as a player and Sellers coming back from his injury providing valuable minutes for Cooke and Nance.
The last thing teams playing us want is a fresh Derek Cooke and Larry Nance with the game winding down.

I think we saw what the rotation will look like later in the season. We will probably be going small in almost every game with Nance and Cooke swapping for each other. We will probably stick to a 7 man rotation while the games are in contention, not terrible, but not where it needs to be either. I would love to have someone step up and be the eighth guy whether that is Trey or Sellers.

DU, SMU, & UNC will all be tests. We never play well @ DU for some reason even though it's generally a home game when it comes to fan attendance.

SMU has some players and a good coach in Larry Brown, we should win given home court. That's going to be a big weekend with both SMU & UNC in the AA.

I think we drop 2 more OOC games. None of the games are certain losses, but I just don't see us pulling all of them out. I think we lose on the road in the Denver and at home against SMU.

As I see it now, the Cowboys and DU are fairly equally good basketball teams, so I have to give the advantage to the Pioneers given they have home court advantage. The Pokes could steal this game, but it will take an excellent game to do so.

SMU is a better basketball team than the Cowboys. Of course, we have the home court advantage in this game which will be helpful. Honestly, I think this game is pretty much a toss-up.

I do agree with people that the next biggest challenge will be Northern Colorado. Again, I think UW and UNC are very equal in talent level, but we have home court advantage. Hence, I'll give the advantage to the Cowboys.

I don't see them losing another OOC game either. We might have some close games, but the Pokes will be the better team in these games....and the better coached team. Our only two losses were to a 6-1 CU on the road (we had our chances) and at #7 OSU in a close game until late in the 2nd half. Just think if we shot our season average behind the arc in this one.

Agreed. They have been much better than I thought they would be this year. Barden is a beast.

I think Trey is certainly good enough to see time and be the 8th guy, the problem is we don't really need the 8th guy to be a perimeter player. We have 5 solid, veteran options on the perimeter. We need interior depth. Unfortunately, I am not sure that guy is on the roster right now.

The only thing I disagree with is talent level of UNC. I watched part of the UNC/NMSU game (side note: AggieVision is better than WyoVision) and I didn't come away with that impression at all. Barden is good and they have some veteran backcourt players that can shoot, but they are not an athletically imposing team. I think the Pokes are the more talented team. They will have to play well to win though.

SMU has played 1 good team and 5 bottom feeders. The one good team they played on the road, Arkansas, they lost to. I think they will have a tough time in Laramie. Hopefully the fans show up that weekend.

I'm sorry but DU, NoCo, or SMU aren't at wyomings level.
Did you hear what the Ohio State coach said about us?
Wyo will blow at least 1 of those teams out, and will not lose to more than 1.

Personally I think SMU is the hardest game left. NC should be a blowout..

I do not see us winning out either. We just do not have the dominant power presence inside that can carry a team through a rough patch like we did the last couple years. our lack of inside depth will catch up to us sometime, but I cannot guess when except that it will most likely be on the road.

I agree that SMU is the hardest test left but we certainly win out. We have a beast about to hulk out and you may know him as Larry Nance. He's about to take the league over!

N. Colorado, SMU and Denver could all be tests.

SMU will be the toughest game. They are very good this year and their only loss is to a very good Arkansas team.

N. Colorado did beat Kansas St. in Manhattan but K. St. really isn't that great this year so I don't think Wyoming will have too much trouble with them since the game is in Laramie. Denver will only be a test because it is on the road.

SMU is the one to watch.

A lot of these games also depend on which Wyoming team shows up.

Wyoming's win over Jackson St. doesn't look terrible though as Jackson St. only lost at Mississippi St. today by 2 and had a chance to win with a 3 at the buzzer. Not that Mississippi St. is great but they are an SEC team that usually has a good home court advantage.
