Similar Programs

Boise State had a ton of underclassmen that played all year last year. Other than Nance, We didn't have much at all for bench contributions last year. Which is why after the Martinez thing, we struggled a lot more.

Basically, lack of depth and Shyatt is still building a program up from being in the depths of hell.

Oh lord....."Why can't we" are the scariest three words you can type on WyoNation. Brace yourselves for a 4-6 page thread.

Denver is not winning big (we beat them earlier this year). They play in a weak league. Apples to oranges.

BSU is winning because they made a quality coaching hire. Period. He recruited a core of talent that is growing together. Those guys weren't 4-star talent either. Talent evaluation and getting the right fits. There is nothing that BSU is doing that we can't do, but there are things they have done that we didnt' do.

CSU is a result of a long term roster build-up engineering by Tim Miles. Too early to know if they can sustain after this group of seniors moves on.

CSU could fall off a cliff next winter.....totally different roster.

I don't think CSU will fall off a cliff next year. They will be nowhere near where they are this year, but they will probably be like we have been the last two years. Eustachy is a very good coach and will keep them competitive.

I am pretty sure that falling to the pig-tail game would constitute "falling off a cliff".

I don't think they drop that far (probably in the mix for 5th next year behind UNM, BSU, UNLV, and SDSU).

I meant to say us last year and us this year without all the bad stuff that happened with the bar fight and injuries. I think you are right with the right around fifth for them, and that is what I meant to say.

Similar program? Indiana a few years ago. :)

They were crap in a GREAT conference, got a new coach who hired some good assistants, and now they are winning conference titles.

Hopefully we can follow the path.

There is no comparison between Wyoming and Indiana in basketball. I doubt many people would leave Indiana out of their top 10 basketball programs throughout history. Indiana is basketball.

They live and breath it. They have always been a giant, even if they went through a dark period. Alabama went through a dark period under probation for a long time. Still was recognized as "the" program in college football.

I think basketball is an easier sport to rise to the top when compared with football, but that doesn't mean it will be easy. Hell, New Mexico sells their souls to be great at basketball and they still struggle to be in that top echelon on the game.

Why is that the case? I've heard others say the same thing.

Being one of the 5 most prestigious basketball programs in the history of the game might have helped their situation a little bit.

Land 2-3 great recruits in basketball that pan out and there you go. Land a great QB and a great RB in football with little else and can still have a crappy team.

Uh...yeah, what he said.

That, and its easier to afford.....especially nowadays, where being great at football is extremely expensive.

I think it's true because A) there are 3 times the amount of teams in DI basketball than football; and B) the system is only mostly partial to the big conferences, not completely partial to the big conferences. Upsets are embraced in basketball.

Reading comprehension fail on my part. Thanks for clarifying.
