Shyatt Rumor

He made teams take us seriously again. We beat CU everytime we played them except once. We beat csewe the last 5 times we played them. Before you get too excited about the new guy, remember that our track record when hiring assistants as head coaches has been less than stellar.

I agree with this. It seems like almost every conference season something happened like the player (can't remember his name) suspended for bringing weed across the border from CO, the Martinez incident, Nance blowing out his acl, and Nance & Herndon getting Mono. Couple that with a not very deep bench and it takes a toll. That is the reason our conference seasons were not all that great under Shyatt. I think Edwards will make a very good head coach, but that remains to be seen.

A bad rumor shows up on twitter and the trashing of Shyatt begins.
He has no idea what he plans to do at this point.
At least let something actually occur.
There was the same rumor about OKC last year and he never talked to OKC.

I believe message boards are where people discuss rumors etc. I think that many people's comments are with implied truth to said rumor and probably don't reflect their opinions if it's not. The rest are facts. You're not "trashing" shyatt if you state our schedule was super weak over his tenure. I understand that he was building a program so I can see why you wouldn't throw them into a fire.

I don't know about the rumor, but I do/did like the Shyatt hire. IMO, the next 2 years will tell what kind of impact he had on the program. No question he improved the program above the Burman/Schoyer fiasco. Was he building a long-term competitor? If we have good success over the next few years with players he recruited, then, yeah, he deserves some credit (as does Edwards for coaching, obviously).

The strength of Shyatt's foundation and program building will be tested over the next few years, IMO.

Not sure why most of you sound like you are upset? Who cares what Coach Shyatt does. No reason to whine about it. If he wants to coach in the NBA with his friend then great. I wish him luck doing it.

Have some class. Shyatt didn't hurt Wyoming basketball so not sure why you are all upset. Good luck to him. He doesn't owe anyone anything.

As far as Edwards goes who knows if he will be better or not. He talks a good game but so does every other coach.

As the old saying goes "talk is cheap". Let's see what he actually does.
Well to say he hasn't hurt UW is a bit of a stretch, he did SUE the University at one point... And while he may not have been a detriment like Shroyer, he certainly hasn't set the bar very high... His record is fraudulent and was the benefactor of a magical and 1-In-A-Million tourney run.... I have no ill will toward Larry but don't blow smoke up our ass like we didn't see this coming minute one.

Have class? Like telling the fan base I am going to slink off into retirement because I poured everything I had into UW and have nothing left and then the second its available jump on a new coaching job... Have class? Tell us the damn truth. Hey UW fans, I love you but I have a better opportunity with my best friend with lots and lots and lots of money. I can atleast respect that....

After getting bit the first time around, I listened carefully to what Coach Shyatt said about Wyoming this time around. He always said that Wyoming would be his last college coaching stop. I don't ever recall hearing him say that he would definitely stay at Wyoming until he was done coaching and was ready to hang it up. Even when he stepped down, his comments left wiggle room for an NBA gig--especially one that would let him return to an assistant role.

I was a huge fan of Coach Shyatt both times around and I certainly wish we could have had him for more years. That said, I also hope that our new coach is less willing to sacrifice offensive rebounding in order to get back on defense. He certainly played for coaches that had better defenses than their offensive point totals would suggest.

It sounds like Edwards wants to play more up-tempo and go for offensive boards. I hated the fact that we sacrificed offensive boards with the likes of Leonard Washington, Larry Nance and Derek Cooke on our team. Naughton could be a beast on the offensive boards if we let him.
