Shyatt meeting last night

Man, oh man was i impressed, even more so than before, listening to coach talk to us about recruiting, the season, players, his life and many other things, I have and even more bigger and better respect for this man and I can truly say I'm truly happy we have him as our Head Coach and Ambassador for W.Y.O. eye openning meeting and overall good time hearing him talk last night. Mad Love for Papa Shy....lol

We are very fortunate to have Coach Shyatt and our entire staff at UW. Wyoming fans hit the lotto when we got them. It is just a matter of time before Coach Edwards gets a high level coaching job and leaves us, but he deserves his chance. I can't believe any recruit could turn down a chance to play for this coach and staff with the facilities we have here.

he truly talked about things last night I had no idea about, and his refreshing insights, man you are right we won the lottery with this wonderful man/coach

First, from other interactions, I agree wholeheartedly with you about Shyatt, who is not just a coach but is a leader of young men and someone who genuinely cares about his athletes and sincerely believes in doing it the right way.

But at the meeting, did he address concerns about our front line for next year, and did he say anything about our apparent 0-for-3 whiff on the late recruiting effort?

I saw where he mentioned recently that he didn't think the guys who they brought it were great fits for the program and wasn't disappointed they didn't commit. He also said they are still looking for someone for the final scholarship.

Also, maybe he doesn't have the concerns many of our fans do.

Would you mind providing a synopsis of some of the topics he discussed or the ones that you found interesting? Thanks.

I don't think we whiffed on anything.

First off I don't think they ended up offering Maxwell Kupchak. He isn't MWC material IMO.

The BC and CU transfers weren't what we needed or wanted either really. Neither could have played next year and would have been wasting a scholarship. Then when they could play they would be taking up two more years afterward when we could be using the scholarship on a better , more impact younger player.

Glaze would have been okay to get to come just because he could use the scholarship next year and play right away and provide some senior leadership to help Adams but then he would be done and it would open back up right away to be used the next year. So it wouldn't have been a waste.

I wouldn't have had any problems with that.

It is better off to hold off and offer the scholarship to a more impact freshman next year than waste it on a mediocre transfer who can't play right away. If Shyatt can still land a 5th year senior that can play next year or an impact JC guy who can play right away then use it for that but otherwise just hold off.

I too am curious though if Shyatt did say anything about the front line for next year and also what other things styeman heard Shyatt say that he had no idea about.

Hey Seattle, I was mostly thinking about Glaze and Boucher ... realize the latter was a reach, but Glaze? Immediately eligible, brought some height and weight, and is exactly what we do not have next year--an experienced big man who can grab rebounds, play some d. Thought he could have smoothed the edges on what appears to otherwise be a rough transition.

Barnes does play defense quite well. It's offense he's lacking in currently.

It is clear Barnes is stronger defensively than offensively. I'm hopeful for him. Time will tell. We'll need to see if he can adjust to the speed of D1 bball, stay out foul trouble, etc. But Glaze would've been a good get for us--battle-tested, senior, been there, etc. I'm afraid he's one we needed. I love Shyatt, but since Nance and Cooke, we've missed on a lot of bigs, too many of them.

Hey tweaked, I agree with you about Glaze. He would have been a decent pick up for next year since he was a 5th year senior. Maybe Shyatt and staff have something in their back pocket they can still pull out for a 5th year senior or a somewhat impact JC guy that can come in next year.

That would make me feel much better Seattle, personally anyways. I really do trust Shyatt and I do think he is very much committed to being a developmental program. But damn, next year would go a lot smoother if we could just land one experienced big ready to play.

On player development, I really hope Shyatt has our best assistants working our young bigs. Although they will remain nameless, not all of our assistants approach working all of our players seriously in the off season. I do know some who handle individual workouts haphazardly. If we are going to say we are a developmental program, we really need to be the best damn developmental program, and our assistants need to be implementing best practices with respect to player development. Hope Shyatt has the house in order on that front.
