Shyatt family as HC

How long do you guys think Larry will be the head coach? Not as in how long before he jumps ship but how long before he actually retires. Also do you guys think Jeremy Shyatt will be the replacement immediately if they build a strong program or do you think once Larry retires Jeremy will go else where?

Opinions & Thoughts?

Well if Papa Shy once took a job for Clemson, I bet Jeremy Shyatt would try and get a job there as well, considering he graduated from Clemson, and a big reason Papa Shy left in the first place is for his kids to attend Clemson.

If the coaching staff stays intact and we end up being a Top 25 team year in year out and are a Sweet 16 Caliber team every year, I think Duncan might get a job somewhere else, and Baby Shy might take over for Papa Shy.
Then again he might go to Clemson or he might be looked at as one of the best up and coming coaches in the country in 5-10 years and might be hired at someplace like Syracuse, or NC, or Duke. Obviously after those current coaches retire, not because they get fired.

Then again, maybe Baby Shy will take over and become like Coach K.

Who knows, remember rule 1 of Wyonation.com is don't ask questions.

I thought Rule # 1 is always bitch about BYU.

It will always and forever be the only rule to live by.

Percisely. That and always agree with a woman even if she's wrong.....you'll live longer that way.

I know one thing, winning 36% of your conference games is not exactly a pathway to getting to name your successor (obviously he took over a tough situation, so we can't expect miracles right away, but still).

I would like nothing more than for Shyatt to build a strong enough program that we want one of his assistants (whether it is Jeremy or Duncan) to take over. Long way to go though.

Yeah no one said this was gonna happen next year.

Fisher wasn't winning the MWC after two years...

Is this sarcasm or no? I can't tell since they went dancing his 3rd year. Either way, it took Fisher 7 years to get a winning reg season MWC record. There is definitely not enough patience on this board to wait that long. Haha.

I agree. We tend to forget that a program actually takes "TIME" (seasons) to build into something special. We have a winning record in our coaches first two seasons. We will need time to get us at the level as the top tier of the conference. And even 6 win and 7 win conference seasons or less for that matter aren't that bad considering the competition. And we aren't that far off considering how well we play against the top tier teams. What WILL begin getting better over time will be our consistency in winning the big ones and the not so big ones.

Ya I don't consider the program moving the wrong way, Basketball just like Football does take a little time to get moving in the right direction. Just think of how this conference play would be if you add Martinez into the mix. I really think we could be closer to the top of the conference with Martinez and for that alone I don't blame the coaching staff.

I agree with that, but in that case do you put all the blame on the football staff for not being at the top of the MWC since Brett Smith was out? Or is it different since he is in year 4 of the program vs. year 2?

it's been nice that it's this time of year and we are talking about our team still, years past at this point we knew we were going to have to play the 1-2 seed in mwc and go home, hence why the MWC tourney never seemed like any fun for me, this year, anything can and may happen

I blame the staff mainly as I don't feel like they worked with what the team had available. I feel like the coaching staff did fail as they didn't prepare our defense properly.

With Basketball I feel we were completely coached properly and I feel with Martinez still on the roster we could be sitting at the top of the MWC. I believe this team was capable of winning more games with Martinez.

If you take the Football team and remove Brett for his own fault, The defense stops opposing teams but our team can't score because we don't have QB I put that blame on the player for getting involved in something he should have had better judgement about. the coaching staff can set limits but if the players break those limits they are the ones responsible for their actions.

Were there limits that Martinez, Cooke and Sobey crossed? Were they equally punished for crossing those limits? Who knows you can't tell me that every College kid in the US strictly adheres to their coaches rules. If they did no one would ever get suspended for breaking team rules.

Football - Coaching Staffs problem, They have had 4 years to build a team and have somewhat failed at it. The loss to Nevada that was Smiths problem he got himself ejected for being emotional we won that game without his ejection.

Basketball - Second year still building the team having no depth and relying on one player to shoot the 3. Possibly the Coaches fault for not having the forethought of getting a proper backup 3 point shooter. But I feel in year 4 in Basketball we won't be ending the season with a losing record.

In fact in Basketball I don't think after this year we will ever have a losing conference season. Unless a player does some stupid shit and causes this team problem. I believe our coaching staff will have us prepared better in the future.

Just to point out, Smith got another concussion in the Nevada game.

He also got himself ejected, I admire his passion and certainly have no problem with it now it's done and over with.
