Sheep Time

I hope we make the NIT. Might be CBIT bound again. Apparently all the media who said we had an inflated record based on a super light OOC schedule were correct. Obviously having Martinez try out for the soccer team at 2 am did not help. We are the most boring one deminsional offensive team ever. When we have to rely on Gilmore jacking threes to have any O um...... Not good. I hope we can get some size and pure shooters recruited for seasons to come. I hate the sheep. At least we own the boot.

Well, that was my first trip to Moby Gym, and I doubt i'll go back after that. Although they had some more modern things (scoreboards, tv, etc) than the AA, that place felt like a fancy high school gymnasium. I'll take the the top row of AA any day over any place in that whale's vagina!

That said - we have to shoot better than 30%. We just can't win against good teams if we can't score.

Shyatt will figure something out - I'm sure. We may not create much more noise this year, but we will win more games.

And thank god we don't play in Moby......there is a special place in hell reserved for that gym.

Did anyone read Ben Fredrickson's article in today's Casper Star-Tribune? The part about 2/3s of the way down where he was quoting Coach Shyatt is particularly interesting. These are my feelings exactly. At first, I thought it was just the homer in me that was making me see it this way, but several people I have talked to feel the same way. How about the foul called on Cooke when he was just standing there and Iverson jumped into him, or the one where Nance went to the floor after a loose ball and Iverson dove into his knees and then gave him an elbow when he got up and then the refs called a "T" on Nance. This has pretty much been going on the entire conference season - home & away. The officials seem to let the opposing teams beat the hell our of us, but call us for any ticky-tac foul they can.

"Shyatt chose his words carefully when describing the Rams’ physicality and the discrepancies in fouls officials rewarded.

“My experience tells me to compliment the opponent,” Shyatt said. “And that’s for real. I have great respect for their staff and team. My experience also says it’s a no-no to tell the truth about another area that does have a tremendous effect on the game.”"

I thought it was just me. Other teams bulldoze the players, and might get called for it, while our players go after a loose ball or go for a rebound, and get a foul called on them. Or not even that and get a call. Hell, if it continues and a player knocks a ref on his ass during such a game, I would not be able to hold it against him, because it seems the refs (at least) have it out for the Pokes for some reason.

Maybe we should leave the conference and go where the refs are not so obviously biased against us. Maybe the big sky or conference USA. We never get any calls at home or on the road. We're always getting called for fouls we don't commit and the other teams just manhandle us and get away with it. The conspiracy against us by the MWC has been going on for quite some time now and it's not going to stop so I say we just leave.

Maybe, but just wondering if you have had your eyes checked lately.

When I see silly posts like this, it makes me ashamed to be a Wyoming fan. I guess you'll tell me we held San diego St. to 9 points without commiting a single foul. Just bad shooting on their part.

The game saturday was very physical. I saw Josh Adams grab or give a forearm shiver to Greg Smith every time he tried to cross the lane. Smith didn't score a single point. I'm sure it was just my eyesight because no foul was ever called. We don't commit fouls.

We are never going to get a fair shake on the road. No team does. But this board is loaded with sore losers. It can't be about the lack of talent or the poor execution or lousy strategy. It's always about the refs and the other teams dirty players. It sounds so juvenile. We have a poster on this board that thinks it's ok if one our players knocks a referee down because we don't get any calls! Insane, and embarrassing.

I guess I better go get my eyes checked - along with a whole bunch of other Wyoming fans.

I'm with you, blade. Fans of any team will see the refs as against them if they're losing. If they're winning, they won't notice a thing. It's sociology. Also, refs tend to subconsciously favor home teams because of subtle things such as crowd noise, etc...that's part of home court advantage.

There's no conspiracy against the Wyoming Cowboys.

Agreed. How many times have we all heard "that was the worst officiated game I have ever seen."

I actually tend to agree with most that this was particularly bad. I was talking to Nance today and he told me before the game the ref came up to him and said he would be watching him and it was that ref that called every foul on Nance and the T. Larry said that he only said what to Iverson after Iverson had some choice words and threw an elbow at him. He also said that Shyatt did send in a petition against that crew so we probably won't be seeing them in another one of our games.

This. When a coaching staff with the experience ours has petitions the conference about the officials, it kind of tells me I am not imagining things.

csewe is a physical team. They aren't that quick but they have size. I noticed Washington getting pushed around everytime he tried to get position in the post. That's part of the problem. We are very small. We start 3 guards, none of whom are very big. Even Washington isn't that big. If the refs let the teams play, we are at a disadvantage. I've been watching these 2 teams play for 30 years and I saw nothing out of the ordinary, officiating wise.

Look up a post or two. Notice the Nance "T". Re-read your line on "nothing out of the oridinary".

Problem is, It was awful officiating both ways at different times which stopped momentum. In the first half Wyoming couldn't touch anyone with getting a foul and during the first 6 mins of the 2nd half we had a lot called in our favor but when we needed them to be called down the line they didn't call shit.

It was a terribly officiated game for both sides.

I was there. It was bad. On both sides, but I think it affected our players more. The guards were a little tentative about the dribble drive for fear of getting a travelling call or offensive foul, and our guys that are used to drawing charges couldn't get those calls like they should have. Leonard was mauled all night, which he needs to expect the rest of the way, but it was ridiculous against the Ewes. That T against Nance was ridiculous, plain and simple. CSEwe could have had a three-seconds call every time they touched the ball. Their bigs were camping out down there. I know they don't usually call that, but when the guy doesn't even try to get out of the paint, it needs to be done. And stopping play for the "injured" CSEwe player, but not stopping play for TWO of our guys laying on the floor was just flat out ridiculous. I'm glad to hear that Shyatt petitioned against that crew, but I think this was one of those times he should have drawn the Technical chewing the refs ear. I don't normally advocate that but if anything, it would have let the crew know they were terrible.

I actually recorded the game and went home and watched it with my wife. She's 8-months pregnant and decided not to go to the game to avoid getting into a brawl. ;) Anyway, when she watched the game, she was commenting on the same things I saw live, which tells me it wasn't just my brown-and-gold colored glasses or the heat of the moment at the game.

Regardless, the team didn't play well enough to win, and you can't blame this loss on the officials. Had we lost by 4 or 6, I think we'd have a valid argument, but we lost by 19. Did the refs affect the game? Absolutely. But they didn't cost us the game. Our poor shooting, especially in the first half did that.

GO POKES!

Yes sir, that is how I saw it and I agree the officiating did not cost us the game.
