Sheep Stadium

Well, I guess the new on campus stadium got approved.
Here's to having a better winning percentage in the new sheep stadium than the sheep will have!

That is huge for them!

Honestly, we need to keep beating them and continue/increase our investments in our program to keep up with them. Worst case scenario (and I don't see it happening) is that Air Force bolts for the Big East, that CSU has success and is offered a spot in the Big 12 and that we are left behind.

Yeah, this is both a positive and a negative for UW.

Negative, cause CSU is DEFINITELY moving up in the college football world.

Positive, because if UW EVER wants to compete to a high level in college football, this essentially forces them to wake up. Get it together, or sit back and watch the Rams take over that region.

We can make fun of CSU and Fort Collins all we want, but they may be leaving us in the dust. They seen to have a vision that we are lacking. They truly want to play with the big boys. We will lose the recruting wars unless we bring our stadium into the 21st century.

Well, we just upgraded it. Short of knocking it down and building a brand new stadium, I don't see too much else changing. That, and if we did knock it down, we'd be stuck playing at LHS for awhile.

Or....*gasp*...they could play in CSU's brand new toy for a bit.....

Forget I said anything.

There are some major things in the works for renovating The War. There's no way in hell they tear it down and build another one after all of the money they've recently sunk into it.

Rams needed it. I'm not sure it will give them the shot in the arm they need but, it certainly isn't going to hurt. Their AD is a real firebrand, got to admit he looks like he will come through on the deal.

I'm not a big believer in aggrandized facilities. I have always preferred 'functional' to 'festive' (Hello! A dome would have been nice! It's Wyoming for f&^#$ sake!). I also went to Indiana and they have spent incredible sums on their stadium in the last ten years, hoping to at least be competitive in the B1G. What happens? They continue to get beat by the Ball State's of the world.

Still, I would like to see a jumbotron I could actually watch a replay on, an enclosed endzone, stadium seats, etc... at the War. Paving the parking lot was a good start. I'm glad they are going to make sure the Dome gets a little attention too. The rest of the campus has definitely come up several notches from the early 90's.

It's a very conditional approval. Half of the funds necessary need to be raised, and they still have lots of hurdles to clear with local government. And if the team continues with these lackluster seasons, it's going to be a difficult thing to raise nearly $125 million before construction even starts. I'm still not convinced this thing will actually get built.

But maybe it will be the shot in the arm that UW administration and legislators need to continue the much-needed renovations to the War. Here's hoping...

GO POKES!

I hope you are right, but apathy and tunnel/short sighted vision runs absolutely rampant in our legislature and the State of Wyoming. Come on Wyoming - go out on a limb and actually get behind something!!!
