Sheep may have a new coach..

Ramifications, the blog for CSU, say that sources are telling him that Jim McElwain, OC from Alabama, may be the next coach of the Sheep. Guy was a candidate at Montana two years ago, and pulled his hat out of the running for the Fresno opening. Would be a great hire for the Sheep if this comes to fruition.

I actually think this is a bad hire because he runs the same type of offense as fairchild. Pro style. Sure that kind of offense is simple and effective when you have the talent bama has. CSU needs either a a guy with local connections or someone who brings a gimmicky offense such as Dave Christensen/Leech type.

If they are looking at SEC coach's I'd go with Auburns OC no question.

McElwain was born in Montana, QB at Eastern Washington, and OC for Montana State.. he knows the area. But he's probably a better coach than Fairchild.. but he'll need to surround himself with guys that can recruit Colorado. Pro style offenses can thrive in the MW, like BYU, TCU, SDSU, etc.

The story.

On another note, what the hell does this say about Fresno State's program when an FSU alum picks the Sheep over his own school?

Wow! $1.5 million a year? That's almost twice as much as CDC makes. Similar to Washington State, this is a statement hire by CSU. Not necessarily because of the name of this coach, but the amount they're willing to spend. Shows they are far from irrelevant.

Not really an alum, he's an alum of Eastern Washington.. he was OC at Fresno for a year though.

Story is he ran 5 receiver sets while at Fresno but that Saban likes the pro set. I don't think we know what this guy will want run at CSU.

A lot of money for their decision:

1,500,000 New HC
850,000 buyout for old AD
700,000 buyout for old HC
250,000 for search firm

Total = 3.3 mil

Which leads to the question everyone's been asking all day: Where the fuck did CSU get that kind of money? :|

I don't think it's a question of having the money, I think it's a question about spending money. I believe UW could pay a pretty good wage but don't because they are afraid. They are afraid that it will burn them. If burman paid schroyer a lot more than he did and then fired him, burman might be hanging at the pub with schroyer. a bad choice on a coach is easier for people to swallow if he isn't making millions.

Dead on, Lax. Plus, when you have an empty stadium like csewe, the money spent on a coach just may sell some tickets. So instead of losing DC, maybe our cheapo adm. should give him and his staff a nice raise. Who knows? He just might stay.
