Semi-OT: should we force split of P5 and the rest

I know we've talked about this, but comments in the other thread made me think of a new angle. Within society, class warfare is clearly heating up. Likewise, the lawsuits are just starting against the NCAA. While under the NCAA umbrella, the NCAA is the primary target of those lawsuits.

If all the rest of us told the P5 schools (65 of them), to take a hike, they themselves would bear that burden. They are the ones that generate the money and profit wildly. They would be consumed in legal cases and also would have a much bigger bulls eye on them for Congress.

No doubt our revenues would decline, but I wonder if we called their bluff, would they really want to venture into the unknown? Would they really want that legal battle?

We might have a bit more leverage than we think.

Not sure how that would make it any worse for the P5 than it is now.

We currently have 0 leverage, multiply that by whatever you want. We ain't got jack.

I have been thinking this same thing. Why do we (Non P-5) have to settle for second best and the scraps of the P5? Screw that. We need to break off and go do our own thing. There is enough quality football played outside the power 5 to support a different league, division, whatever. There is no need for the small schools (who never see the benefit) continue to help prop up the P5. I am all for a split.

Look who the lawsuits target, the NCAA. If the P5 were forced to split from NCAA, then they themselves would be the primary target of Congress, lawsuits, etc. As of now, they have the perfect situation. Veiled by the NCAA yet full authority to do whatever they want and keep all the money.

Removing the NCAA camo, could be a substantial blow down the road. One or two lawsuits could devastate Universities not the NCAA. If they have the protection of the NCAA, the NCAA is the first to fall.

You could be right. However, I don't think we split, I think we vote rules in the NCAA that the P5 can't live with thus forcing them out of the NCAA.

I think the P5 would LOVE to split with the NCAA regardless of lawsuits.

I get the feeling you're proposing the "Dump her since she's about to dump me" approach.

Why do you believe this? I am in no way dogging you or calling you out, I'm truly interested. What would the P5 gain that would make it so worth leaving the veil of protection?

If they would want to split, they would. What could possibly keep them in it against their wishes? I don't have time this week, but I didn't conceive this notion out of thin air. There are articles that discuss the concept.

In today's environment of class warfare, evil rich, concussion litigation, etc. etc., the NCAA umbrella is a huge benefit to be standing under. The legal of benefits of the NCAA are very important right now.

Didn't P5 spent half the off season threatening to leave the NCAA. Or was that just the voices again?

Quite possibly. I didnt pay much attention to it.

Seriously G5 needs to do the same thing the FCS has done, People here may not be FCS fans but the play off system has me watching it every year because of how exciting it can be.

G5 needs to say listen we don't need your money and we don't want it. You guys can all beat each other up go schedule someone else. But that would never be the case because the simple sad truth is we need their money :(

If the P5 drops the rest of us there won't be A P5, G5 and FCS. Splitting from the P5 is the same as dropping down to FCS. Why would any recruit pick Wyo, CSU or UTEP over Northern Iowa, Montana or South Dakota in this senario?

It's not even close to being FCS there is a huge difference.

The break between G5 and P5 is coming sooner or later one way or another. but the G5 commissioners need to be ahead of it and figure out how to keep making money for the schools without P5 teams paying them for body bag games.
