Season stats so far

Since this has been (or will be) essentially 12 scrimmages, what are the stats that jump out at you (other than record) that need to be fixed most or are positive.

I think our punt coverage has been good this year (insert joke about lots of practice). Still, one of the lone bright spots IMO. I think we rank about 35th in the nation for punt coverage.

For the bad (and yes there are lots), but one major one is red zone defense. We are about 119th. Our opponents score a TD 75% of the time that they get in the red zone. This has to change.

3rd down conversions. We are only converting about 36% of our third downs while our opponents convert 45% (we are ranked about 111 on this).

I know there are lots of things, but these are some that need fixed to have any chance at winning games. Really, these are pretty similar to last year's rankings, but we have had a MUCH weaker schedule. The exception is red zone defense. Last year, opponents scored TDs 60% of the time and we were actually ranked about 58th or so. We slipped quite a bit in that category.

Not a stat, but what has killed me is the shocking number of games that were over by the 1st quarter. I don't know if this is bad luck or bad coaching.

Yeah, agreed and good point. This has been nothing short of perplexing. I wonder what the percentage of touchdowns in opening drives against us is and how that would rank nationally?
