Sawvell, Burman and conference realignment

The real puzzler to me is the PAC used to be extremely proud of their academics, how in the heck do you go from Stanford, Cal, etc. to Boise State. Candidly I think all the DEI, academics etc talk is window dressing and it all comes down to media markets for TV
The stuffy ADs who cared about that stuff are all gone. Stanford and Cal chose to be in the same conference as Boston College rather than the Pac 6 schools.

On academics, Boise is ranked on par with Liberty U where they still teach that the earth is 6,000 years old.

So you’re saying we are screwed.
If it's impossible to put together a 4 to 10 year run of dominance from UW...then yes...we are screwed.

There seem to be two paths to inclusion in big (or big adjacent) time college football.

1. The Success on the field route...or the BSU route.
2. The attractive market/destination route....or the CSU route.

Wyoming has not been qualified under route 1 since Tiller left. Nobody has looked at Wyoming's football program and been at all impressed. Under Bohl it was respected but that was it.

It is now obvious, despite heavy investment, that route #2 may not be possible. I see exactly 0 articles/discussion that even mentions Wyoming as a potential targe for the AAC or PAC ... The reality is that the investment was either not enough or was spent incorrectly because the larger powers that be simply do not consider Wyoming when looking to form athletic conferences that may have a chance, however small, of being included in the playoffs.

All of the talk about airport size, market appeal, stadium, national following,.....etc sort of wilts if you have a killer program year in and year out. Win and you get respect. I had sort of thought that Wyoming had bought itself some sort of cache' with the modest run that Bohl accomplished....but the people who looked at the run of post-season invitations and mocked it as smoke and mirrors were right. That never mattered to the folks looking to form conferences. If Bohl had won a couple chips, and been in/around the top 25 since Josh allen was under center, I think we would be having a different conversation right now.

No? China was absolutely hired for that exact reason. Then she left the very first second she could! This is a big deal for today's society
May be but California is is not a place I like and frankly think it’s a dumpster fire. I have no plans to ever visit again and give them a dime of my money for their taxes.

So yeah, No!

Wyoming wouldn’t get invited because of the population of the state. Only way Wyoming could get invited with the population of the state is if Wyoming football was as successful as Boise State and at the same time Wyoming basketball was as successful as San Diego St. if that were the case then they would have more national appeal.

But because they have no population and no national appeal they wouldn’t ever get an invite.

Doesn’t matter that CSU hasn’t had success and they don’t need to control the Denver market. The fact is they have a LOT more population where they are at and what ever years they become good they have access to promote to more people. That’s all the executives at these media companies care about. You need big population areas or you need national appeal.

Wyoming has neither one and that is why they won’t ever get a seat with the big boys now.

Nobodies fault, just they way it worked out over history that not that many people wanted to make their home in Wyoming compared to many other places.

It is what it is. No other reason other than that.

It'll be interesting if that model holds in the future.

I don't think a pac whatever TV deal is going to be substantially more than the current mwc deal. More than us on next negotiations? Sure. More than what the mwc would have received if didn't disintegrate? Probably not.

The pac will turn out to be more about ego than money. I've been wrong before but somehow I don't think that group of schools will make a ton of money. Maybe fewer schools to split with will help?
