Ryan Leaf

Would former Washington State Star, and NFL bust Ryan Leaf make sense for the pokes?

He has collegiate coaching expereince at West Texas A & M, and stated a couple of years back in an ESPN interview that his dream job would be to work at the University of Montana or Montana State University.

This being said, the Univerisity of Wyoming is not Montana but it sure is close.

Why would we want to take a step back by going to someone like leaf. I believe that the fans, alumni, students, and corporate people would people would be in an uproar an would immediately start a revolt. This would be a disaster. I believe that Christiansen and Applewhite (?) would be my top 2 choices.

Leaf.. interesting name, but given his recent firing from W. Texas A&M, I doubt he'll land a coaching gig for a while, plus the media circus that'd surround him would be a little much. He's got baggage similar to Gary Barnett.. a lot of it. I dunno if Leaf will ever end up at UM, given the way he left Montana and basically said that Montana was dead to him (while at Wazzu).

This has to be a joke. Ryan Leaf will NEVER coach at any level ever again. He was an UNPAID QBs coach at division 2 west texas A&M university (who else here knows that is in canyon TX, he was paid very little to be the golf coach and "volunteered" to be QB coach). During that short 2 years he was most remembered for shattering the pressbox glass at a WTAM home game and taking prescription drugs from his players.

Ryan Leaf is the exact opposite of a coach. Often times young coaches are those who didnt have the athletic talent to make it in the NFL (ala Major Applewhite) but were well disciplined and competed hard. Ryan Leaf had all the talent in the world, but was a whiner who didnt care about actually playing or his teammates in general.

Does not everyone deserve a second chance?

Wouldn't a name like Leaf draw in the corporate sponsors. Let's remember he had a stellar career at WSU.

Any listed Candidate would be better than Ryan Leaf. I clicked on this topic thinking it was some kind of joke. Ok, so he had a couple good years in college and a complete meltdown in the NFL. He's a total headcase and should not be in a leadership position anywhere in life.

I hate to be mean, but you either are trying to be funny or lack any sort of sense when it comes to building a college football program.

Corporate Sponsors? NO corporation would want the name Leaf attached to its reputation. Leaf may be facing felony charges soon and if not felony he likely will face misdemeanor charges. Mike Vick will be released from prison soon, you think a bunch of corporations are going to try and have him represent their company?

Career at WSU? What does the fact that he has a good arm and threw for a lot of yards at WSU have anything to do with coaching college football?

Recruiting? You think parents want to send their kids to a school to be coached by Ryan Leaf? I dont think many parents would look too favorably on a "coach" that uses their kids as a supply for prescription drugs.

Second Chance? He got his 20th chance at WTAMU and only caused that university embarassment.

Oredigger Poke,

Are you a Montana Tech Graduate living in Wyoming?

Remember the American Justice Sysyem, innocent until proven guilty

The career at WSU shows he was solid once and has a true passion for the sport of College Football.

If I was a parent of a quarterback phenom I may want to go to Wyoming to have him tutored by one of the best college quarterbacks ever.

Sorry Kleeds but give it up, your the only one on the planet that thinks Leaf is a good fit for UW. He is more likely to repel recruits then land them, he is a college football sidenote. Why would we ever consider him when we are in the running for some very well respected coaches. This is so out of nowhere, I am wondering if you are Leaf himself.

People do deserve second chances but they don't need to bring down my program doing it. Leaf can go prove himself in Div2, work up the ranks at his alma mater or elsewhere if he really wants to eventually be a Div 1 Head coach.

Fullback,

I am not Ryan Leaf I can guarantee you that.

I am just a college football fan who enjoys startng a discourse about various topics relevant to your program.

If Leaf is not head coaching material which I beleive everyone here is against, would you accept him as your Quaterbacks Coach or Offensive Coordinaror?

kleeds,

Leaf is not gonna be the HC. And Christensen does not have any ties to him and would never hire him so it is a pretty moot point, dont ya think?

I am a ramblin' wreck from golden tech (CO Mines) as well as a law grad from wyoming.

Kleeds....Thats the thing, none of us think ryan leaf is in anyway "relevant" to our program. The only D1 school I could see possibly hiring him for anything is Washington State and the best position he could hope for is an unpaid assistant QB's coach.
