Robert Gagliardi: Kudos

Whilst many of us were singing the praises of CST's Mike Vorel yesterday for calling out Christensen and writing he should be fired (get today's CST to take a look), a few verses also need to be sung in praise of The Wyoming Tribune-Eagle's very own Robert Gagliardi today.

As I open up my Sunday WTE sports section there is a story with lots of commentary from Gags and it reads: Gagliardi: 'After five mediocre years, Christensen needs to go.'

Even of it does not happen (DC being canned) I think it is important to recognize these two guys who cover UW Football -- for their critical thinking in regard to this firestorm situation that our beloved Pokes football program is unfortunately dealing with.

I love the fact that both Vorel and Gagliardi aren't afraid to rock a boat (call it the Robert Sternberg effect) and to reveal their candid and honest thoughts with us as they track the daily happenings regarding UW Football.

Perhaps this is a turning point?

If the two primary news outlets have seen to becoming more critical in their coverage of UW Football & Hoops, it can only help shine the light on these programs and force the UW administration to realize that at least the press is holding these sports accountable...and that 'mediocrity' may no longer be championed by both the fans - and at long last, the press.

I've known Robert for a few years now and I hold his writing and his opinion in very high regard...if there was one thing I wanted to see from him more -- it was his own opinion inserted into his work more frequently - he delivered big time in the last 24 hours.

I've been a UW fan since 02', so some of you long timers will have to tell me if this kind of reporting and personal commentary is brand spanking new - or - were there other people in the newspapers round these parts who previously took UW to the woodshed when it was justifiably called for?
