Realistic predictions now.

Now that it is game week :D Time for some realistic predictions after the scrimmage and some conference foes scrimmages.

I think Wyo goes 12-1 in OOC play. I think they handle CU again, and CU fans will say later in the season "if we played you again we would win".
I think the Pokes beat SMU, which is going to be a very hard game, but I think SMU isn't quite ready to take that next step.
I don't think the Pokes beat Ohio State. As optimistic as I can be, I don't see us knocking them off.
But I wouldn't count Wyo out either. Shyatt has the ability to get his teams to play hard in big games.
Who knows what Nance might do back in Ohio? It would be great for him to drop 25 and grab 15 boards and upset the Buckeyes.

But in MWC play, I think Wyo takes a big step forward and finishes Top 3 in the MWC.
Some teams will be hurting in the MWC this season, and Wyo should be taking that next step.
I see Wyo winning 13 MWC games.
AFA (2)
CSU (2)
Nevada(2)
SJSU (2)
Boise (1)
Utah St (1)
SDSU (1)
NM (1)
Fresno St. (1)
And 5 losses:
@ Fresno, @ NM, @ UNLV, @USU, @Boise St.

I really believe Wyo finally takes down NM, sweeps CSU, and protects homecourt. I don't think they can win in Vegas yet or Albuquerque. And winning in Boise and Logan is going to be very hard. And winning in Fresno will be hard as well since they play our style of ball.

25 wins. 6 losses.
Easy ooc schedule makes the record look better than it is. It will come down to winning some games in the MWC tourney to get into the big dance.

Predictions this time of year are fun...and usually embarrassing to look back on

So with that said, my realistic predictions:

OOC - Wyoming goes 10-3 (losses to OSU, SMU, CU)
Conference - 10-8 (losses to NMx1, CSUx1, NVx1, USUx2, UNLVx1, BSUx1, FSUx1)
Conference Tourney - 1-1 (Pokes still have to play in the first round, win that game, then lose in the quarterfinals)
Season record - 21-12
Another invite to the CBI

My wish is that the Pokes perform to the level BeaverPoke has predicted and that he shows me to be the prognosticating idiot I really am.

My thoughts are 12-1 in OOC lose to OSU. In conference play I think that we win more games than last year, but still lose some. I think we lose to NMx2, CSUx1, USUx1, UNLVx1, FSUx1, BSUx2. 10-8 in conference play, and we will have to win at least 1 in the tourny to get in. 22-9 for the regular season.

OOC - 10-3

MWC - 8-10

18-13 overall

1-1 in MWCT, 1-1 in CBI

20-15 overall.

Pokes challenge for NIT/NCAA bid in 14-15 with 4 senior starters (Grabau, Hankerson, Cooke, and Nance, alongside Josh Adams).

P.S. Everybody is overlooking what I think will be our 2nd toughest OOC game, @DU.

You think @DU is harder than SMU, and @CU?

I think @DU will be tougher than some expect, but CU is receiving votes, and SMU has Larry Brown and turning that program around in a hurry.
Of course, we did beat them with just our starting 5 last season on the road.

Definitely harder than SMU. Partially because we get SMU in Laramie, but DU returns 3+ starters from a Top 70 RPI team. SMU's players have more stars next to their recruiting profiles, but I am much more concerned about a veteran, Joe Scott led team on the road.

SMU was a bad team last year (sub 200 RPI), but Brown brought in a ton of talent this year (Frazier, Moriera). I just don't think they will be fully meshed yet by December. None of them have played at 7200' either.

Good point. I didn't know DU returned some talent, I thought they lost it all.

We'll still beat DU.....the venue is Poke friendly and we're just plain better.

I think we lose up to 2 games in OOC and finish above .500 in conference play. Not sure how things will play out, but am looking forward to some basketball.

Go Pokes!!

A lot of the basketball press is reporting that SMU dominated CU in their secret scrimmage. Not sure if that speaks well of SMU or poorly of CU so take it for what it's worth.

I don't know how the record will turn out, but the thing I'm most excited to see is the program transition to the style Shyatt really wants to play. He was kind of keeping it together with duct tape and chewing gum the past two years. I think this is the year we finally see what the future looks like.

too early for me to do this, but I think we'll be just fine, game at a time and this team is gonna be fun to watch grow in front of our eyes. GO POKES

"Realistic" and "Beaverpoke" don't really go hand in hand. That being said ill hitch my wagon to whatever Nowherepoke predicts.

Cup, from what I have read so far it doesn't sound like the style of play is going to change that much. I think we will still we a lot of games in the 50s, especially once we start playing MWC teams.

Joe Scott"s teams are always tough to beat. Nowhere Poke knows what he is talking about on this. This is one we will have to dig and claw with everything we have to win.

I agree...but Shyatt's team beat Scott's team by 10 last year. I'm expecting another tough fought win.

It will be a tough fought game between two well coached teams, either way. We have had a tough time in Denver though. Pokes and Shyatt lost by 11 down there 2 years ago and we haven't won in Denver since 01-02 (I had to double check that one, can't believe it has been that long).

I hope Shyatt turns that around. We usually get decent attendance from Denver area Poke fans. Would be nice to get a win in front of them.

Hey Cup,

I had heard that Boise St. dominated CU in their secret scrimmage not SMU but maybe I heard wrong. I did watch Boise St.'s exhibition the other night and they are flat out going to be good.

Whether it was SMU or Boise St. that played CU I am not sure now. I would be curious to know.

SMU scrimmaged Texas Tech and CU this year. CU, as far as I know, scrimmaged with both SMU and Boise. Jeff Goodman (ESPN) was one of the guys on twitter who said:

Here's a semi-surprising result in one of the secret scrimmages: SMU handled Colorado with ease over the weekend.

I never saw anything about how that CU-Boise scrimmage turned out.

I love that the NCAA is allowing these scrimmages but find it functionally retarded that everyone thinks they have to be a "secret." I believe NCAA rules just say that they have to be closed to the press and fans. I assume coaches all have a sort of gentleman's agreement with one another to keep things on the down low so no one gets embarrassed if they get smoked while working out the kinks.

Thanks for that info. Very interesting. Makes me wonder if Colorado is all just hype this year. I know Boise will be good though and SMU is supposed to be better but the way everyone is talking up CU you would have thought they would fare better.
I agree with you that these "secret" scrimmages are stupid.

Did you hear if Wyoming beat Utah or not? Or did anyone else hear much on it? I saw that Nance played well but I never heard through the grapevine if they said who won that scrimmage.

Beaver.. you kill me man haha... We can't make realistic predictions at this point, we haven't seen any of our comp play, we haven't seen our team play and you predict 25 wins haha, and you personally can't ever make realistic predictions haha
