Predicted attendance for the Shootout in Casper...

My guess is 3,000. Max. Lame.

Although, the venue blows, so I don't blame fellow Oil City folk.

I understand that fans in casper would like to see a bigger profile game up there for them, but in reality those games when they happen should be played in laramie.
I'm gonna bring this up again, but with a different twist this time. How about a yearly series with sodak state and rotate between casper and rapid city and play the pokes boys and girl against the jacks. I think that would be as good as anything lately played in casper minus the texas tech game.
Your thoughts??

You mean like when the place was half empty a couple years ago for Wichita State, which was coming off the NCAA appearance and featured Ogirri playing as a Wheatshocker?
Always nice for the department to lose $60,000 putting on a game in Casper, nobody showing up and then the people in Capser complaining that they don't get a good enough game and that the Cheyenne and Laramie people should be more supportive.

Ok. Here's some more info in on my wyo/sodak st series.
Sodak state wants to be the states school, and is looking to include western sodak now that both them and usd are d1 programs. They moved part of their spring football practice out to rapid city this past spring and the ad wants to play a basketball game in rapid yearly.
Instead of yearly they could make the rapid city game a home game for them and rotate yearly with casper (a uw home game).
Then we are only paying a bunch for a half sold events center every other year. Maybe people in casper then will realize what could happen when they don't show up. All of a sudden they get a game once every two years.
Not trying to s##t on anyone in casper, but if you don't show up something like this might happen.

I think what Wyoming is trying to do is cater to the people in Northern Wyoming moreso than Southern Wyoming. However, there's no where in Northern Wyoming big enough to host a Cowboy basketball game besides Casper.. so they shoot for there, a more central location, easier for people from the Big Horn Basin, Sheridan, and from the northeast corner. Mostly speculation on my part, but that's my guess. However, if they really wanted to appeal to Northern Wyoming, they would play a game against Montana or Montana St in Billings, which drew fantastically last time I went to that border war game.. the Metra was packed, mostly UW fans. So a game w/ SoDakSt/USD would be fine, but ultimately, not the audience UW is looking to appeal to.

Titlest, that is exactly why we have the Shootout. And it used to be a success. But for reasons I dont understand fully, most of the fans you see at the Shootout now are the same fans you see in the AA. Oh, for the record, I like the Event Center. I can drink beer. I never attended the game held in Billings, but heard it was a success. I would be in favor of abandoning the Shootout in favor of another arrangment. Then in a few years, give the shootout a try again.

cheypoke: I was responding to SDPoke and the Rapid City idea. :) However, you can drink beer at the Metra in Billings too. But agreed, I remember going to the Shootout as a kid and the Events Center being packed.. and that was when the Cowboys weren't really that good, but now.. no one could care. I don't think they do a good job of promoting the game to Northern Wyoming though.

Yep, Titlest, back in those days it was quite the event. Between Xmas and new years, 2 day tourny. Casper would be a happening place. Bars were packed. The decision to cut it to just one game killed it. If it appears that Bilings would get good draw again, or Rapid city, I'd be all for it.

To change this up for just a minute, if you moved the shootout away from casper and played either in rapid city (uw/sdsu) or billings (uw/montana) and kept it 2 weeks before christmas you would draw fans to either venue. I know a ton of people from northern wyoming that come over here to do their christmas shopping. If there was a game here to I would bet they would stick around.

sdpoke; how about alternate bewteen Billings, Casper, and Rapid, and invite Wyoming, Mont, Mont. St., and SD State. Make it a tri-state border war, with some sort of traveling trophy. Make it a two day, 4 game thing again.

That would be a lot of fun, I think it would be good for all involved. Just think its not a possibility. The two montana schools would prolly not want to play in a tourney together. They play enuf in their conference slate.
That said how about wyo, sdstate, montana, and south dakota. Usd and sdstate don't play each other.
I think that would be the way to go.

I just threw Mont St in there cuz i needed a fourth. It could be SD, or ND st. what ever. The reality though is that the better basketball with those schools would be on the women's slate.
