Power 5 Vote

http://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/2cwdr2/ncaa_votes_to_give_greater_autonomy_to_richest/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's been a shitshow so far, some good points but the standard is P5 fans think it's fine and G5 fans are scared to shit.

P5 fans see everything black and white Alabama doesn't lose recruits to Troy so this won't change anything. G5 fans see everything in color and are worried that schools like Wyoming or Boise will lose recruits to PAC12 schools due to the money they are willing to pay.

The fact that the fans are as split as the media shows that not only is this going to forever alter College Athletics but nothing good can come from it for the fan of the game.

well it already isnt equal.......just more concerned with a basic split that separates our conference...and with P5 not wanting to play the others.....isnt it basically a division anyway?

I'm curious what kind of effect this will have on the poorer schools in P5. Many of them are already running their athletic programs at a deficit, and this will further exasperate that, as they desperately try to keep up.

As a random observation - I've never seen so many Wyoming fans in /r/cfb before. I always had the inclination that it was me and some other dude, but there's at least a half dozen in that topic alone, and I haven't even posted! :)

College football is over for the power five it is now semi-pro. There will be a split soon and will either form a third division one subdivision or combine the lower tier with Fcs. That's how I see it playing out from this vote. I wish there were more Bill Snyders out there.

I never posted there before but have since started because it's what i consider the best discussion with pure football fans which is pretty hard to get w/o going to ESPN or 130 different college forums.

Completely agree - and I think the format of Reddit makes it hard for people to just troll, which inevitably happens in other places. Hell, there are even a few BYU fans who almost make sense... ...they're even self-aware enough to realize that Pac-12 wouldn't let them in.

But the P5 fans still don't see the issue the G5 fans see, I you have always had it and never had to fight for it you can't understand it.

I think what it is, is that P5 fans already think they are above the G5 schools. They don't respect the G5 schools as it is, so why should these small time schools get to play with the big boys?

Since I have met more OSU fans, I have experienced some of this mentality. Many Beaver fans do not know jack-shit about the MWC or the schools in it; but when it comes to talking about a specific MWC team they seem to talk like they know that every player we have is worthless and overrated and if they were actually good they would have been offered by a Pac12 school.

So with this mindset of "We play real football, we have more fans, we are better" that the P5 schools have, why would they want the G5 schools?

If you don't understand that, then just think of the things us Wyo fans have been saying about NDSU and the FCS to the Bohl-followers.

Day in and day out we say things like "NDSU was good, but you are FCS. Even in a great FCS season, a bad FBS team averages more fans, makes more money, etc."

The truth is, the BCS at least gave the MWC schools a chance at a big time bowl.

Wyoming needed to do what Utah and TCU did. It's looking like we are going to be just like the FCS before too long.
Teams like Boise almost made it, but it was too little too late.

What we have always considered big time college football is no longer what we wanted.

I cringe every time I see someone saying this.

Some big-time pipe dreaming going on in FCS land. The ones with means see it as a potential move up. Whether they can depends on the cash. They aren't used to budgeting at the FBS level. It scares the Hell out of the alumni, administration and their state governments. If they want to ante up, they might. But, I don't see it happening with many of them. They have a pretty small college athletics mentality.

No doubt that the P-5 have essentially set themselves apart from the rest of D-1 basketball and FBS football. We will have to see how it plays out. I don't see this as a positive at all for the MWC, or any of the non P-5 FBS conferences. But, I also don't see this as something that's going to destroy the non P-5 conferences either.

In regard to the non - P5 (us), together we stand - divided we fall.
*cringes*....and that's where things may get dicey. Schools like Boise State, Wyoming, New Mexico will be able to afford the benefits of this autonomy no problem, but schools like Hawaii, San Jose State, etc. are in trouble. It is inevitable that the conference will soon be divided.

You really think so? How do you see it playing out, or do you think there will be layers of change for many years to come? I have an very uneasy feeling as a UW fan...especially knowing that the current administration is a "basketball first" administration. I believe if they had their choice (or became forced to choose), Wyoming athletics would resemble a Georgetown, Seton Hall, Butler, etc.

Wyoming OK with vote to give Power Five conference more autonomy

The NCAA Board of Directors on Thursday approved a package of reforms for college athletics that some are calling groundbreaking while others say it widens the gap between the haves and have nots.

But the truth is everybody involved in NCAA athletics — from the powerhouses to the small private schools — understood these changes were coming.

Now it’s up to schools like the University of Wyoming to figure out how and if they can implement some of the changes that likely will be coming over the next several years.

“The legislation that was adopted right now certainly centers on student-athlete welfare,” said Matt Whisenant, UW’s deputy director of athletics.

Unfortunately, as we have previously seen, it is every man for himself. We already know Boise and SDSU would drop the MWC in an instant for the next best thing to come along.

Except without BSU, no one else wants SDSU.
