Post season thoughts

Uhh, that loss kinda sucked, but was sorta expecting it. The pot-gate hurt in more ways than just depth. I believe it also hurt our mentality heading into Vegas. Papa shy gives second chances so I think they all return, as Trey burned his second chance this year, hopefully the young bucks learn a valuable lesson.

Wasn't crazy about hearing the shyatt retirement rumor, as he just renegotiated a contact, and I don't feel our program has returned to where we and shyatt want it to be. Glad he didn't, and I don't expect him too.

One small bright piece from today's loss is that Josh can heal. He is going to need fresh body and feet in the coming month. I do expect he will go to NBA combine. I posted on the mwc board that he has a great shot at being drafted and still feel strongly about it. Arguments from other fans within the conference vary... One of them is the jimmer comparison. To me that is way off base, jimmer was a one dimensional scorer that never had the other two dimensions that Josh was born with. Freakish athletisim and elite lateral quickness. Jimmer could shoot, but he couldnt defend or create.

The other argument is that Josh isn't a great defender... Which is also garbage. Losing Nance and Cooke hurt our man to man defensive scheme. This year Josh played true zone. Last year, we met Derek marks twice... Once regular season and again in tournament. Josh held marks 6-8 points below his scoring average, and dismantled marks in the tourney, to the point that Leon rice brought in a freshman to hard foul Josh.

And remember, defense is also about driving and creating fouls. Josh puts incredible pressure on defenders. He was top five in the country this year at free throw rate. Not percentage, but actually getting to the stripe.

I stated that Josh has increased value this year due to the current state of the NBA. Golden state is going to go down as the best or second best team ever. Adams has value because teams will see potential for him as a enegetitic 6'2 guard. There isn't a proper one man defensive scheme for Curry right now... But there is a two man rotational defensive scheme, where substitutions and high enrgy minutes can run Curry of his spot, then drive on Curry on the other end.

Even without golden state, Josh still has huge upside that GM's and scouts will see. For one, there is a data base that all scouts and coaches are privy too. It records all games, whether TV coverage or not, so teams can game plan. What this means is that everybody who has seen Josh knows that he is a great defender when the team around allows him to be. Secondly, there isn't a player in the mwc that has improved as much as Josh... He's doing something right. He hasn't stagnated, every facet of his game is evolving. That tells me he has extraordinary work ethic. Again, something that NBA franchises value.

It's all going to come down to how Josh perform in the team setting at the combine, and his personal work outs. Eric mussleman already stated that Josh is the most NBA ready player in the league... Not NBA-D league ready. Not over seas ready. NBA ready...

Go get um Josh. We believe in you, but what matters is that some NBA teams are starting to believe in you. Defense and energy.

Adams is around 80th on the pundit's NBA draft picks, so he does have a shot, albeit slim. Of course if he really shows at the combine, that could make the difference. But if the teams were told they had to draft tomorrow, I think he would be left out.

I'd bet money Adams gets drafted, no idea what round but he will be in the NBA.

Disappointing season from almost every body involved with Wyoming basketball outside of Josh Adams. Who was ALL TIME GREAT level.

Coaching and players. All under achieved. (Excluding Adams and Jmac) You never get team unity when nobody thinks the best players are playing the most. Wouldn't you say 10 or more of the players on the team question the playing time? How many on a team like last year?

I think the long term plan for shyatts are for Larry to get a long term deal and end up being able to hand it to his son one year and the son would be the head coach. I'm alright with that happening. As long as they get Thompson and Stewart signed. And they're going to need a guard and a big guy right now.

+1

I agree. I was expecting more from some of the more experienced guys, Adams had ups and downs, but dang, what a pleasure to have him in brown and gold.

Where we go to fill the void this offseason is HUGE. We have Trey's scholarship open and we need a contributor with that scholly (if we could land a new starter caliber guy it'd be massive). Who knows what the fallout is gonna be with the suspensions. Loads of work to be done by just about everyone right now. The players really need to get focused on a gym routine just for strength alone, this doesn't even go into bball skill sets which we need work on as well. We need BIG jumps from our sophomore class into their junior year. People are rightfully worried about next year, I'm still optimistic. Could football be better then basketball next year?????
Adams is gonna go on to play ball somewhere. I'd love it if he can make it to the NBA! We'll see what happens there. He really expanded his game this year and his shooting went to another level. Gotta wonder what he could do on a pro level with constant work. Please get him on the Lakers to reunite with Nance Jr! That would be so dope, I'd probably have to bite the bulllet and go watch em against the dubs.

Wyoming like usual always in rebuild mode, something that will never go away, next year will be interesting to say the least, GO Josh, make the NBA somehow, someway!!
