poor AD

Tom burman has been a very poor AD every since he has been at wyoming, we play highschool teams in basketball evey year, some of us had to pay 215.00 dollars for football season tickets, but the great Tom burman makes them for 95 dollars this last saturday, good way to rip the other season ticket holders off. Just because tom grew up in laramie, that is no excuse for him being such a bad AD

The $95 season ticket was a promo deal. Not the greatest seats, from what little I heard. The basketball coaches do have some say in the schedules, too. The Schroyer years should be self-explanatory....but last year and this year are weak to give our guys solid playing time, figure out who can do what, and to build confidence and not be hurting going into conference play. The only real big blemmish on TB is Heath Schroyer...he has made solid hires in all the other sports and the athletic program, as a whole, has made some good strides.

Well said - I completely agree with these comments.

Great facility upgrades, hiring coach shyatt, coach Christensen, our wrestling team is a top25 program, and we have tons of other good programs.

Yup, facility upgrades and hiring good coaches. Question is how many Mountain West championships have been won since Mr. Burman has been AD?

Would also question Shyatt being a Burman hire. I sort of got the feeling that Shyatt really wanted to come back to Wyoming because of the way he left.

As for facility upgrades I think the football concession stands in athletics maintenance shed under the West side of the stadium looks pretty much as it did some 25 or so years ago.

It isn't the MWC, but we've won the last two WCC wrestling titles. Does that count?

Completely agree about the lower NW concourse. That place needs to be improved to match the rest of the stadium. Anyone know if that is in the works?

i i remember seeing an interview with kevin mckinney where he said that that is one of the next projects coming up

I am curious what the profit/loss statement has looked like over the course of his time at UW excluding the major facilities projects that were directly funded by the Legislature.

At the end of the day, the AD is not a coach and he has to balance the books. That is the boring truth that gets ignored on sites such as these.

I did not get to attend, but I sure enjoyed having Nebraska visit Laramie. I just wish they were on the basketball and volleyball schedules too. (Full disclosure: I spent two years at UNL as a grad student so my dream games are all Wyo vs. UNL.

WyoExpat,

We more than likely will not be seeing any profit/loss statements; and if we were to see them, with inovative accounting we would not be able to compare them with anything from the past.

From personal observations I would say that Mr. Burman is having some financial problems at present. He ran a discounted season ticket "promotion" ($95 a season ticket) recently and now per Kevin will selling some 250 tickets for next Saturday's game at $15 a ticket. (I look at both of these events as blatant kicks in the teeth to the regular season ticket holders, buthen that is MHO.)

In addition, I haven't seen (in the local paper) nor heard (on the radio) near as many ads (virtually none) for Cowboy football as in past years. Last year seems like in late June we were informed that we had sold 10,000 season football tickets and that would be the goal for future years. Haven't heard anything about the number of season ticket sales so far this year so am guessing it is substantially lower (guess it is hard to replace those season tickets Nebraska fans bought to see the Wyo/Neb game).

I would guess that since Mr. Burman has been here that any profit/loss statement would look really bad if state funding were to be excluded. I know it is substantially more than when Mr. Moon as the AD but that would be like comparing apples and oranges so will not go there.

Fishing? As in fishing...like trolling? Trolling as it here to just cause shit?

Burman has done well, with what he has to work with. Granted, he is no visionary, and not a pioneer type person that will lead Wyoming to the BIG...but he is far from poor. That would be more like Lee Moon.

The facility upgrades were not Burman's doing. That was handled through the Legislature and largely put in place back in the mid 2000's under the former college president.

Our athletic programs have not made progress under the coaches Burman hired. (with the exception of Wrestling-that was a hell of a hire).

The very BEST you can say is that Burman has, at times, been able to sustain a level of mediocrity for UW athletics in the MWC.

The truth is, that UW athletics is in decline. We need a change in direction. We need a dynamic, energetic, and creative approach.

It is time Burman found another venue for his talents, and for UW athletics to get someone who is passionately devoted to providing UW and its fans, the best run athletic programs in the country...

:deadhorse1:

Again, really do you and Wyoming Fishing not have anything better to do than bash on Tom Burman? Did he pick on you in high school, steal your prom date, or what?

He has two championships (Wrestling), Best ever finish in Volleyball and Soccer in the MWC, two bowl games (twice the number of the previous two AD's), and oversaw the WNIT in 2007, facility improvements. You can say those are the legislature but he still has to be involved in the process and implementation.

Is he perfect no, did he screw up the whole Schroyer hire, YES! but he shouldn't be fired.

Since you want him gone so bad give us some suggestions on who you would replace him with.

When he fired McClain my question was who would you replace him with so I'll ask you the same question. Who are you going to get to come to Wyoming to replace him with? And are you going to get some one who will do something stupid like try to change the school colors?

He did fire the only Coach to win a MWC spectator sport, and replaced him with the shittiest coach in program history. Other than the Schroyer debacle he aint too bad.

lol well said MarcusWyo.

Typically, because one has the temerity to question the performace of someone you support, you create a reason to attack the credibility or competence of the poster (a quality of which you can have no idea).

The information is there for all to see, and as plain as day. Mr Burman had the good fortune to inherit an Athletic Strategic plan compiled (in the main) by President Dubois and members of the Legislature..the athletic upgrades were contemplated and planned for before Mr Burman took office.

In his administration he has made one good hire-our Wrestling coach. He has squandered the realatively tenable fiscal situation of UW athletics that he inherited, to the point that UW athletics is in serious financial straights. As bad as the future of our athletic programs may appear, our fiscal outlook is equally as bleak. A $700000 guarantee for 5 years for Christensen is his doing. The buyout for Schroyer, same story different chapter. The revenue streams for our programs is drastically diminished due to the the damage to the MWC-which has been a tragicomedy of errors by ADs and college presidents all around-including Burman.
Truth be told, Burman was hired because he was a local boy, and it was assumed he would learn on the job, and become an asset. This hasnt worked out.It has cost UW tens of millions.
It is time for UW to enter the market and hire an AD to get us out of the mess we find ourselves in-before irreparable damage has been done

The DC contract was actually structured in a way that could benefit the university. The base salary would be the only portion paid if DC is let go early, which would only be 250,000 if I remember correctly (it could be 500k?). The other incentives are from CJC and attendance and do not go to DC if he is let go.

Seems Burman learned from the Schroyer hire.
