Please don't take this wrong as I think the pokes looked great! ...but by no means did I think the team wrestled to its potential...
Chase Smith and McCade Ford both got 1 pt wins...but realistically both of them could have been easily hit for stalling at the end of those matches as neither of them finished strong (however they were good wins for both of them). I honestly think the ref was very favorable toward Wyoming on that. I'm sure they will hear it at practice that they need to finish.
Zach Zehner is a great freshman wrestler and he was going up against a tough kid, but in no way should he have been teched. It looked like he literally just gave up. I'm sure he will rebound, but that was very disappointing.
On the other hand, Shane Onufer was unbelievable. He manhandles the kid, gets the tech and looks frustrated that he didnt get the pin. You got to love that!
Joe LeBlanc came out firing. That was a fun match to watch and its easy to see why Joe is the #1 ranked wrestler in the country. (BTW he beat a wrestler with only one other loss on the season)
Patrick Martinez was great in getting the pin, but honestly he wasnt wrestling a very good opponent. But thats what makes a good wrestler...a guy who will go out and get the pins against opponents that they can.
Helbig was just giving up too much weight!! You have to feel for the kid wrestling at heavyweight. He had some nice shots, but didnt turn the corner quick enough....the bigger kid dropped his hips and Helbig ended up giving up points on his good shots.
Overall, 27-12 over the 2nd best team in the conference (when the pokes didnt wrestle their best) shows just how good the pokes are!!!
