LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — The new staff set out to alter the attitude.
After the players moved past any initial reluctance that comes with extensive change, the approach became all-inclusive.

And out of a tumultuous time in University of Wyoming football history emerged a team even more determined to achieve its goals.

On Monday, many brown and gold athletes reveled in the result of their tenacity through so much off-the-field turbulence, receiving an official bid to cap coach Dave Christensen’s first year with a postseason appearance.

Bound for the New Mexico Bowl, the prideful Pokes took stock in how they accepted the new standard, an awareness of work ethic and execution that helped them reach a long awaited benchmark.

“For me, it was my senior year, and I decided for myself that I had nothing to lose by going and giving this my best shot, buying into what they said, trying to have the most fun I could and working hard,” UW senior center and team co-captain Russ Arnold said during a news conference at the Rochelle Athletics Center.

“For me, it was easy to buy in. I just decided that I was going to, and I’m real happy to have done that. It works; this program works.

“It’s been a good season, and I’m proud of myself and happy I was willing to give that sort of commitment,” he continued. “And I’m proud of my friends and my teammates that they were, too.

“In this sport, if everybody’s not on the same page, it’s never going to work. Through the ups and downs we’ve had all season, everybody’s stuck with it.”
