FARGO, N.D. - The North Dakota State wrestling team saw its six match win streak come to a halt in a 25-15 loss to Western Wrestling Conference foe Wyoming on Sunday in front of 628 fans. The Bison are now 9-5 overall and 2-1 in the WWC while the Cowboys improve to 10-3 overall and 5-0 in the WWC. Wyoming claimed five of the final six bouts, including two wins by major decision and one technical fall.

After an NDSU forfeit at 133, the Bison reeled off three straight decisions to take a 9-6 lead. Senior Ryan Adams won a 6-2 decision over Kasey Garnhart at 141 pounds after notching two takedowns as well as a riding time point.

At 149 pounds, junior Andrey Patselov earned a 3-2 win over Chase Smith thanks to a 1:24 riding time advantage.

Junior Vince Salminen claimed a 7-2 decision over Jimmy Belleville at 157 pounds. Salminen tallied two takedowns and a reversal in the win.

The NDSU lead did not last long as Wyoming won the next four straight bouts. 165 pounder No. 9 Shane Onufer and 184 pounder No. 9 Joe LeBlanc tallied a major decision and technical fall, respectively, to lead the Cowboys.

The four straight losses by the Bison brought the score to 21-9. In his first dual action, redshirt freshman heavyweight Will Johnson brough the team back within striking distance as he pinned L.J. Helbig in only 59 seconds.

The Bison needed a pin from sophomore Justin Solberg at 125 pounds to tie the match, but No. 12 Michael Martinez overpowed Solberg in a 14-5 major decision.

NDSU now travels to Cedar Falls, Iowa to take on Northern Iowa in a big WWC clash on Sunday, Feb. 14.
